CITY OF MCKEESPORT NEWS

In this edition of the“ In McKeesport Area” magazine, you will see seasonal activities including the Kids Fishing Derby and Good Neighbor Day. We added a new event this year in partnership with the AIU McKeesport Family Center and McKeesport PartnerSHIP for Healthier Communities, welcoming Bluey to our Blue-Top Pavilion for a literacy lunch for children. You will also read about tributes to local veterans with our Memorial Day ceremony and the 82nd anniversary of the SS McKeesport’ s final voyage. As always, I would like to thank the volunteers who make these events special for all of you. Whether they are taking the time to organize activities for your children or paying their respects to our veterans, these volunteers put forth their best efforts for our community.

For our Summer Concert Series in partnership with the McKeesport Lions Club and Allegheny Regional Asset District, we have crowd favorites returning to Renzie Park this year. I am so appreciative of the McKeesport Lions Club for taking the lead on this concert series each and every year. Without countless hours of preparation and volunteerism, these summer staple events wouldn’ t be part of our summers in Renzie Park.
You’ ll also read about the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania’ s commitment to McKeesport and the Mon Valley. Through its nature walks and bird-watching activities, Audubon staff and volunteers have turned our focus to the beauty of nature in Renzie Park. The organization is working with my office and Penn Trails to design a nature trail along the hillside above our fitness area, the Heritage Center, and Garden Club. They’ ve also added a chimney swift tower to help conserve and educate the public on these unique birds.
Time and time again, you’ ve heard me talk about my administration’ s motto of“ Working Together for a Better McKeesport.” We always talk about it being more than a slogan – it’ s an invitation for each and every one of us to get involved to ensure McKeesport can be the community we know it is. I encourage everyone to get together, share information, and be aware of what our City has to offer.

I look forward to seeing you at our community events in the coming months. I wish you all a safe and happy summer.
