CITY OF MCKEESPORT NEWS
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
As your Mayor, and as someone who was born and raised right here in McKeesport, it is both an honor and a profound responsibility to serve the community that shaped me. This City is more than a place on a map to me. It is home. It is family. It is the foundation of who I am.
I want to say thank you to my wife and children, my family, my friends, my colleagues, and all of the people of McKeesport. My new role is not about a title. It’ s about trust, and I am deeply honored by the trust placed in me by City Council to serve as Mayor of the City of McKeesport.
As I said, McKeesport is my home. It’ s where I was raised, where my family built a life, and where my values were shaped. This City taught me hard work, community, and resilience.
As a kid delivering newspapers, I watched families move away as jobs disappeared and the mills went quiet. Even then, I believed this City could rise again. My grandparents came here from Ireland and Italy believing in opportunity. My parents taught me the value of service— my mother as a nurse’ s aide, my father as a Public Works employee for this City.
I am proud to be a U. S. Army veteran, and proud to have spent my career in public service. Everything I’ ve done has led me home. McKeesport has taken its hits, but we never lost our pride— we just needed to revive it. This is not a finish line. It’ s a turning point. I promise you: I will show up; I will listen; and I will lead with integrity. In my short time in office, I have been focused on listening and learning. I believe that good leadership begins not behind a desk, but out in the neighborhoods, in conversation with residents, business owners, community leaders, and families. I have been spending as much time as possible throughout our City, hearing directly from you about your hopes, concerns, and ideas for McKeesport’ s future.
What I am hearing is clear. Our residents want strong, safe neighborhoods. They want responsible growth and meaningful economic development. They want infrastructure improvements that reflect pride in our City and provide the reliability our families and businesses deserve. These priorities are guiding my work every day.
We are already making progress. Efforts are underway to strengthen our neighborhoods, support local businesses, and pursue new opportunities for development. At the same time, we are taking a hard look at our infrastructure needs and identifying practical, sustainable solutions that will benefit our community both now and for generations to come.
We will work together— across neighborhoods, across backgrounds, across differences— because the future of this City belongs to all of us. As mayor, my message— and my motto— will be simple: Hope. Trust. Belief. Hope that better days are ahead. Trust that your City is working for you. And have belief that McKeesport can rise again— stronger than before.
There is still much work ahead, but I am optimistic. McKeesport has resilience in its roots and determination in its spirit. Together, we can build on that strength and move our City forward.
Thank you for your trust, your engagement, and your commitment to our community. I look forward to continuing this journey with you.
Sincerely, Mayor Tom Maglicco
