Dear Friends and Neighbors, cKeesport
CITY OF MCKEESPORT NEWS
What a summer it has been in McKeesport!
Over the past few months, our city has been filled with music, celebration, community and plenty of reasons to get outside and enjoy the place we call home. From the sights, sounds, tastes, and traditions of our 66th annual International Village to another great season of Concerts in the Park, McKeesport gave us plenty of opportunities to come together.
And this year, we added something new to the summer calendar, our Riverfront Festival. It was wonderful to see residents and visitors enjoying live entertainment, activities and water sports along our riverfront. Most importantly, it gave us a chance to showcase a part of McKeesport that deserves even more attention and to begin building what we hope will become a new summer tradition.
I encourage you to take a look through this edition and revisit some of your favorite moments from the summer. These events are more than dates on a calendar. They are opportunities for neighbors to see one another, families to make memories, and our community to celebrate what makes McKeesport special.
But while summer brought plenty of fun, there has also been a great deal of work happening behind the scenes.
The City recently awarded contracts for paving and demolition, continuing our efforts to improve our streets, address blight, and make our neighborhoods stronger. We also received a grant for a new machine that will allow our Public Works Department to maintain vacant lots more efficiently and keep them better groomed. These may not always be the most visible projects, but they are the kind of steady work that makes a real difference block by block.
At the same time, we are working hard to collect revenue that is owed to the City and making responsible financial decisions to strengthen our position. We are also actively looking for new ways to build and support our local economy, attract investment, encourage business development, and create opportunities for McKeesport residents and entrepreneurs.
There is no single project or event that will transform a city. Progress comes from doing many things, consistently and responsibly, while keeping our focus on the future. And fortunately, we are not putting away the party hats just yet! This fall brings another full calendar of community activities, including our downtown Art Crawl in partnership with Mon Valley Arts, the bonfire that will close out the Renzie Market season, the Salute to Santa Parade, Festival of Trees, and more. I hope you and your families will join us, support our local businesses and organizations, and continue to make these events your own.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this summer such a memorable one, from our city employees and volunteers to the organizations, businesses, performers, and residents who continue to invest their time and energy in McKeesport.
There is plenty of work ahead, but there is also plenty to celebrate.
I look forward to seeing you around town this fall.
