Army Field Band returns to stage in McKeesport

From Boston to Baghdad , Tampa to Toronto , the United States Army Field Band has been thrilling audiences of all ages for more than six decades . As the premier touring musical representative for the United States Army , this internationally acclaimed organization travels thousands of miles each year presenting a variety of music to enthusiastic audiences throughout the nation and abroad .

In August , the band and chorus returned to the stage after a yearlong hiatus – kicking off its “ America the Beautiful ” tour from the Lions Bandshell in McKeesport ’ s Renziehausen Park .
Mayor Michael Cherepko said it ’ s an honor once again to host the Army Field Band in McKeesport – especially with their local stop being their first back on the road since COVID .
“ Having some of our nation ’ s most skilled musicians sharing their talents and their patriotism with the McKeesport community is a wonderful opportunity ,” Cherepko said . “ Any time we can welcome this group as part of our Summer Concert Series , we are adding something truly special to the many patriotic programs that take place in our city each year .”

Ostermayer Lab rejuvenates Penn State campus

In September , local dignitaries joined Penn State University executives in celebrating the opening of the newly remodeled Ostermayer Laboratory , where a $ 14 million renovation project brought state-ofthe-art equipment , modernized teaching spaces , improved classrooms and collaboration spaces to the Greater Allegheny campus in McKeesport .

Penn State Greater Allegheny faculty and students began using the space in August , but a ribbon-cutting ceremony to reveal the facility to the public and Penn State alumni took place on September 9 . The building originally opened in 1973 .
“ There are few investments that have a better return than an investment in a top-quality science program ,” Penn State President Eric J . Barron said . “ Preparing students for STEM fields has been a part of the work of this campus since the Ostermayer building was first opened .”
