WHAT’S NEWS IN MARS AREA 2020 LUCKY NUMBER TICKETS AVAILABLE FOR HOLIDAY SEASON ONE-OF-A-KIND CAR DONATION PROGRAM Community Auto, part of The Lighthouse Foundation, is a nonprofit low income car ownership program. It accepts donated cars, repairs and inspects them if necessary, then sells them to qualified working low-income people at discounted prices, as compared to a regular used car dealership. According to the organization, it is the only one of its kind in western Pennsylvania that puts cars back into the hands of families in the Greater Pittsburgh area. The used car sitting in the garage that you didn’t sell because it was a hassle, the car that didn’t get the trade-in value you wanted, or one the kids used for school but is no longer needed would be the perfect car to donate. Your generous donation is the fuel for the program and is tax deductible. Contact Community Auto at communityautolico.org or at 724.538.5081 to find out how to donate your car and give a family a hand toward self-sufficiency. FREE CPR CLASS A free CPR class will be held Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. at Heritage Church, located at 2262 Rochester Road in Franklin Park. Whether you want to learn CPR for your own purposes or get your certification updated, all are welcome. Space is limited. MARS BANK ‘STEP FORWARD’ CAMPAIGN RAISES AWARENESS AND FUNDS FOR FIREFIGHTER SCHOLARSHIPS For the fourth year, Mars Bank is sponsoring the Step Forward campaign, which honors first responders, active military and veterans. Police, fire, emergency personnel and military step forward when others are backing away or turning to run. This program honors their bravery and shares their stories with the community. The public is encouraged to post tributes and thank-you messages on social media using #StepForward and tagging @MarsBankPA. Fund for Firefighters Each year the Step Forward campaign supports first responder and veteran groups. For 2019, one fundraising drive will support the Butler County Community College Education Foundation’s Butler County Volunteer Firefighter Fund. The funds are available to assist all Butler County volunteer firefighters with the cost of fire training courses, firefighter certification, and EMT classes. Firefighters who wish to take the training courses can apply to have their tuition paid by the foundation’s Firefighter Fund. Mars Bank promoted BC3’s training program for firefighters and collecting donations for the scholarship fund. Donations were collected at all banking centers and through the online donation site Go Fund Me (BC3 Firefighter Scholarship).
