Mars Area High School is in its second year of a partnership
with National Math + Science Initiative (NMSI).
NMSI, a non-profit organization, offers a College Readiness
Program that has been proven to dramatically increase the
number of students taking and earning qualifying scores on
AP English math and science exams and to increase access to
traditionally underrepresented students.
Mars Area High School offers Advanced Placement (AP)
courses in Biology, Calculus, Chemistry, English Literature,
English Language, European History, Physics II and United
States History. Since 2016, the school added AP Computer
Science, AP Computer Science Principles and AP Physics I
courses.
During the 2017-2018 School Year, 198 students were
enrolled in AP (Advanced Placement) courses offered at Mars
Area High School and took more than 355 AP exams. Of those
students, 73 percent earn a qualifying exam score of “3,” “4,”

Foundation Class 3A Cross Country
Invitational, held Sept. 22 in Hershey, PA.
The boys team took 24th place overall
with 652 points and an average time of
18:39. Junior Zachary Leachman earned
eighth place with a time of 16:40; senior

Tennis Team Ties for First Place
at MAC Tournament
Mars Area High School Indoor Drumline and Winterguard
competed in the 2018 Three Rivers Winter Ensemble Association
(TRWEA) Championships, held April 7, at Kiski Area High School
(Leechburg, PA).
The Indoor Drumline team earned second place with a score
of 87.45 in the Percussion Scholastic A competition. The school’s
Winterguard team took sixth place (76.12) in the Scholastic Regional

Also of note, the Indoor Drumline received seventh place (79.60)
overall in the Percussion Scholastic A competition at the 2018 Winter
Guard International (WGI) Sport of the Arts Percussion Regional,
