Mars Area High School is in its second year of a partnership with National Math + Science Initiative (NMSI). NMSI, a non-profit organization, offers a College Readiness Program that has been proven to dramatically increase the number of students taking and earning qualifying scores on AP English math and science exams and to increase access to traditionally underrepresented students. Mars Area High School offers Advanced Placement (AP) courses in Biology, Calculus, Chemistry, English Literature, English Language, European History, Physics II and United States History. Since 2016, the school added AP Computer Science, AP Computer Science Principles and AP Physics I courses. During the 2017-2018 School Year, 198 students were enrolled in AP (Advanced Placement) courses offered at Mars Area High School and took more than 355 AP exams. Of those students, 73 percent earn a qualifying exam score of “3,” “4,” Board Appoints Acting High School Principal High School Continuing Successful NMSI Partnership Cross Country Teams Compete at PIAA Foundation Invite Mars Area High School Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country Teams competed in the 12th annual PIAA (Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association) Foundation Class 3A Cross Country Invitational, held Sept. 22 in Hershey, PA. The boys team took 24th place overall with 652 points and an average time of 18:39. Junior Zachary Leachman earned eighth place with a time of 16:40; senior John Zervos, 127th place (18:33); junior Dylan Becker, 141st place (18:46); junior Clayton Pfiefer, 167th place (19:04); freshman John Dunn, 224th place (20:12); junior Connor McChesney, 242nd place (21:01); and senior Brent Metal, 243rd place (21:08). The girls team took 15th place overall with 427 points and an average time of 21:59. Sophomore McKenna Bowes took 17th place (20:17); senior Camille Bromley, 39th place (21:03); senior Josie Schneider, 104th place (22:30); freshman Eliza Matusek, 121st place (22:47); freshman Kalin Wilson, 155th place (23:21); freshman Keely Looper, 195th place (24:41); and Sidney Jaeger, 236th place (26:46). Tennis Team Ties for First Place at MAC Tournament Mars Area High School Indoor Drumline and Winterguard competed in the 2018 Three Rivers Winter Ensemble Association (TRWEA) Championships, held April 7, at Kiski Area High School (Leechburg, PA). The Indoor Drumline team earned second place with a score of 87.45 in the Percussion Scholastic A competition.
