Homecoming Celebration Mars Area High School held its 2017 Homecoming celebration, Sunday through Saturday, Sept. 24 through 30. The theme of this year’s Homecoming celebration was “Through the Decades.” Spirit Week began with the High School’s annual Powder Puff Football Games at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24, at Mars Athletics Complex. Theme days, held during Homecoming Spirit Week, included: n Monday, Sept. 25 — “Roaring ‘20s” (formal wear) n Tuesday, Sept. 26 — “The Golden Years” (red, white & blue) n Wednesday, Sept. 27 — “Flower Power” (tie-dye/ neon) n Thursday, Sept. 28 — “School House Rock” (college wear) n Friday, Sept. 29 — “Mars Day” (blue & gold) A Homecoming Pep Rally was held at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29. And, the 2017 Homecoming Parade was held at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29, in Downtown Mars, followed by the Fightin’ Planets Homecoming Football Game against the New Castle Red Hurricanes at 7 p.m. at Mars Athletic Complex. 38 Mars Area The Homecoming Queen was crowned at halftime. Candidates for Homecoming Queen were Isabelle Berkopec, Erin McChesney, Ellie Orr, Ashley Parham, Bret Rinaman, Landri Shannon, Nichole Sommers and Jessica Srock. Honorary court member were exchange students Michele Costa dos Santos and Anna von Preussen. The week ended with a Homecoming Dance, held from 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, at Mars Area Centennial School. The Homecoming King was crowned during the dance. Candidates for Homecoming King were Robby Carmody, Ray Kahn, Caleb Keys, Elias Manjerovic, Luke Nanna, Max Pasquinelli, Daniel O’Connell and Michael Sforza. Honorary court member were exchange students Maxwell Quaicoe and Pedro Lopes.
