PERCUSSION TEAM PLACES IN WGI
REGIONALS
Mars Area High School ’ s Mars Indoor Percussion team was named a finalist at the 2022 WGI Dayton Percussion Regional , held March 27 at Kettering Fairmont High School ( Dayton , Ohio ).
Mars Indoor Percussion placed second in the Percussion Scholastic A competition with an overall score of 87.600 . In addition , the team earned top marks in the Visual category .

MIDDLE-SCHOOLERS PLACE IN STATE MATH LEAGUE
CONTEST
Mars Area Middle School students participated in the 2021-2022 Pennsylvania Mathematics League Contest .
The school ’ s eighth grade earned a combined score of 139 and placed fourth overall in the region ( Allegheny , Butler , Cambria and Washington counties ). Seventh-graders at the school achieved a combined score of 112 and took 16th place in the region
In the Eighth Grade Contest , eighth-grader Levi Jackson earned 11th place overall with a score of 31 and tied for fourth place in the region . In the Seventh Grade Contest , seventh-grader Grace Nam took 15th place overall ( 28 ) and fourth place in the region .
In February , all Mars Area Middle School seventh- and eighth-graders entered the contest by completing a 30-minute , timed exam in their math classes . The goal of the annual contest is to encourage student interest and confidence in mathematics through solving worthwhile problems .

YOUTH HOCKEY TEAM EARNS FIRST
PLACE IN TOURNAMENT
The Pittsburgh Yetis 10U Squirt - Sarris Team earned first place in the Pittsburgh Amateur Hockey League ( PAHL ) Major 2 Division Season End Tournament , held March 20 at Baierl Ice Complex .
The team went undefeated in the tournament , vanquishing the North Hill Vipers 5-4 in the final game . Team members include Mars Area School District fifthgrader Gavin Foster ; fourth-graders Braydon Barbish , Carson Myers , Levi Rosswog , Carson Whitling and Joshua Wright ; and , third-graders Makayla Dasilva and Chase Doner .

HOCKEY PLAYERS SELECTED FOR PIHL
ALL-STAR TEAM
Two members of Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Hockey Team were selected to compete in the 2020 Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League ( PIHL ) Class 2A All-Star Game at 4 p . m . on Sunday , April 3 , at Alpha Ice Complex ( Pittsburgh ).
Seniors Ryan Mitchell ( defense ) and Wes Scurci ( forward ) will compete as members of the Class 2A Gold Team .
