412-221-7313 www. bridgevilleappliance. com the experience was hearing the United States’ national anthem played in a foreign country,” recalls Carmody.“ It made me feel so proud.”
Team Ohio defeated Italy’ s 18U national champion Virtus Bologna 85-55 in the final round to win the competition. The team bested KKZadar( Croatia) 121- 64 and Pallacanestro Reggiana( Italy) 82- 59 to advance to the final round.“ Winning the championship was an incredible rush,” he adds.“ Our team was called out in front of the sellout crowd and they had confetti falling all around us. It was definitely an experience I ' ll never forget.”
Carmody has played basketball nearly his entire life.“ My dad has been the coach at Mars Area for 20 years, so I grew up in the gym,” he laughs.“ I love the competitiveness of the game, and also how the chemistry and toughness of your team matter so much.”
Right now, Carmody is not sure where he will attend college or what field he wants to study. Although he loves basketball, he hopes that his future plans will include playing football at the college level. Currently, he has scholarships or interest from Pitt, Penn State, Wisconsin, Michigan, Maryland, Temple, Michigan State, North Carolina, Northwestern, Stanford and Notre Dame. As he goes through the recruiting process, he’ ll be looking for a school that fits him academically and socially just as much as it does athletically.
“ We are so proud of Michael and for all he has worked to achieve,” say Carmody’ s parents.“ The past year he has really grown into a leader and we are excited for what his future holds. He knows the key to his success is in the ability to work hard toward his goals. He will continue to be committed in the classroom and on the fields and courts at Mars!”
