Jump Rope Event Raises $30,213 for Heart Association cKeespor ARS AREAt C IT RS MA Y OARE F MC A KE SCES H OOL POR TDINE STWS RI C T NE WS Mars Area Elementary School raised $30,213 to benefit the American Heart Association through the school’s annual Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser, held Feb. 22-26. The top five individual fund-raisers were fourth-grader Cooper Courson, who collected $1,105; third-grader Ethan Wolf, $1,080; fourth-grader Colin Petty, $1,075; fourth-grader Mira Ramanathan, $1,070; and fourth-grader Hunter McBride, $1,007. As part of the fund-raiser, students in second through fourth grades jumped rope during their physical education classes and were asked to collect pledges to benefit the association. Registration Open for Freshman Selected for Annual 10K/5K/Children’s Fun Run Sea Cadet Exchange Program Mars Area High School Marching Band Boosters is taking registration for its eighth annual “Mars Band on the Run” 5K Run/Walk, 10K, & 1K Children’s Fun Run to be held at 8:55 a.m. on Saturday, May 21 at Mars Area High School. Awards will be presented to the top male and female runners in various categories and age groups. All 5K participants ages 14 and younger will receive finisher ribbons. The race, which begins and ends at Mars Area High School, is sanctioned by the USA Track & Field Association and will be timed by Elite Running Race Management. All results will be posted online at eliterunnersracing.com/results/ and marsband5K.com. A non-competitive 1K Children’s Fun Run will be offered for children ages 11 and younger, and will take place immediately following the 10K and 5K events. A post-race “Out of This World” Party will include refreshments, music, prizes and an awards ceremony. Registration is $25 per 10K/5K runner through Sunday, May 15, or $28 on race day. Children’s Fun Run registration is $11/$12. Children who preregister will receive a race t-shirt. All proceeds benefit Mars Area High School Marching Band, which will provide entertainment along the 3.1-mile race route. Online registration and paper forms are available at marsband5k.com.
