good athletes who play multiple sports,” he adds.
In addition to recognition as a coach, Heinauer was named
Pennsylvania Athletic Director of the Year in 2014 by the
Pennsylvania State Athletic Directors Association (PSADA). He has
also earned a Certified Athletic Administrator designation from the
PSADA and the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators
Association.
Heinauer is a registered athletic director in PA and has served
as president and vice president of the WPIAL Athletic Directors
Association; president of the Midwestern Athletic Association
Athletic Directors Association; on the District 7 Committee for Coed
Track & Field and Cross Country; and as meet director for Mars Area
School District’s Track & Field Invitationals.
Under his leadership, Mars Area sports teams have won more than
100 section, 18 WPIAL and 3 PIAA championships, and the athletic
program has blossomed. The district has hosted multiple PIAA
boys soccer, girls soccer and girls volleyball playoffs; WPIAL playoff
games for baseball, football, boys lacrosse, soccer, softball and girls
volleyball; and District 7 track & field championships.
Heinauer says he looks forward to the excitement of game day, but
also values the intensity that encompasses planning throughout the
week.
“It takes a lot of preparation to play on Friday night,” he explains.
“And victories are great, but no matter what happens, we don’t dwell
on wins or losses. Our philosophy is that
tomorrow is going to happen,
whether you win or lose.
We start to prepare
immediately for the
following week.

a lot of success
because we have a
great coaching staff,
and we’ve been working
together for a long time.
This isn’t just
about me.”
