Gracyn Thatcher will join the TRYPO
Young Peoples Orchestra on stage at
New York City’s Carnegie Hall for a concert
on Tuesday, March 31.
Thatcher, 15, daughter of Stephen and
Valerie Thatcher of Mars, has been playing
the cello with the Three Rivers Young
Peoples Orchestras organization for three
seasons, performing as a member of the
Symphonette strings orchestra in her first
two seasons and successfully auditioning
for the Young Peoples Orchestra this season.
She also has played in a string quartet and
attended TRYPO’s summer program in
Chautauqua, N.Y.
The Young
Peoples
Orchestra is a

up of mostly
high school-age
students from
the Pittsburgh
Region, West
Virginia and
Ohio. The group
rehearses
on Saturday
afternoons at
Duquesne University’s Mary Pappert School
of Music.
The TRYPO Young Peoples Orchestra was
invited to Carnegie Hall to share music from
its 2019-2020 season, themed The Elements.
Selections will include Arturo Marquez’
“Conga Del Fuego Nuevo,” New York City
composer Michael Markowski’s “City Trees,”
and Igor Stravinsky’s “Firebird Suite.”
“An experience like playing in Carnegie
Hall will allow the (musicians) to broaden
their perspective of musical performance
and the effect they can have in playing
beyond our own community,” said Brian
Worsdale, TRYPO music director. “This type
of immersion experience is so valuable to
young musicians.”
