Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Castle Shannon Library help fund library events, programs and services through fundraising and volunteer activities such as the book sales and flea markets throughout the year.
You can become a Friends member by donating a minimum of $ 10.
The Friends of the Castle Shannon Library are also looking for volunteers to help with fundraising and community events. Visit castleshannonlibrary. org / friends-of-the-library.
Library Donations Accepted
The library accepts donations of gently used newer books, audiobooks, DVDs, music CDs, puzzles, board games and video games. Please place items in the gray donation bin near the lower-level elevator entrance. Donations are added to the library’ s collection or sold at the Friends of the Library book sales to support the library.
TWEEN & TEEN TUESDAY, YOUTH IN FIFTH GRADE & OLDER April 28, May 5, May 12 and May 26 at 3:30 p. m. Participate in games, crafts or volunteer opportunities! If a large group regularly attends, this program may be split into two separate programs— one for tweens and one for teens. Keep up-to-date through the library’ s online calendar. Registration is not required.
SUMMER READING KICKOFF PARTY! ALL AGES Thursday, June 4, at 12 p. m. Join in a big party to kick off the summer reading program! Yard games, crafts, pizza, popcorn, and your sign-ups for the summer reading program.“ Unearth a Story” with us this summer! Registration is REQUIRED by May 29.
SUMMER READING PROGRAM:‘ UNEARTH A STORY,’ ALL AGES June 4 – August 7 Participate in extraordinary programs and events that celebrate this year’ s Summer Reading Program theme,“ Unearth a Story”!
DIG IT! Ages 8-12 Mondays, June 8 – August 3, 3:30 p. m. Calling all junior archaeologists and paleontologists! This weekly program will allow you to map out an area, dig for treasures, identify gems and fossils, and more! Registration is REQUESTED.( There will be no Dig It! program on June 29.)
MESSY ART DAY Ages 5-12 Thursday, June 25, at 3 p. m. Wear clothes you don’ t mind getting covered in paint. Meet in the lower-level parking lot for some messy art stations! Registration is REQUIRED.
PET ROCK WORKSHOP All Ages Thursday, June 11, at 3:30 p. m. Bring a rock and turn it into a fantastic creature! We will provide paint, glitter, googly eyes, sequins, feathers, and so much more! No registration required. Please bring your own palm-sized rock.
TEEN SURVIVAL ISLAND Ages 13-18 Tuesday, June 16, at 3 p. m. Solve puzzles and make plans to see if you and your friends would survive on a deserted island! Registration is REQUESTED.
TEEN JEWELRY MAKING Ages 13-18 Tuesday, June 23, at 3 p. m. Necklaces, bracelets and rings! Gems, wires, beads, thread, charms and more! Join us as we create some unique jewelry. Registration is REQUESTED.
TEEN BATH BOMBS CRAFT Ages 13-18 Tuesday, July 7, at 3 p. m. A mix of science and self-care! Create some interesting combinations of scents and textures in making a bath bomb. Registration is REQUESTED.
DINOSAUR MASK MAKING Ages 5-12 Thursday, July 9, at 3:30 p. m. RAWR! Let’ s see how many fun and interesting dinosaur masks we can make at this DINO-mite craft! Registration is REQUESTED.
PARKS AND RECREATION: BUGS & INSECTS
Ages 5 & Up Tuesday, August 4, at 3 p. m. Join Allegheny County park rangers who will be teaching all about bugs and insects that can be found right here in Pittsburgh! They always bring a fun and informative program to our summers! Registration is REQUIRED.
