Keystone Oaks’
ESL Club Hosts Pet
Adoption Event
Students in Ms. Kathy Morrow’s English as
a Second Language (ESL) class come from
countries sprinkled throughout the globe,
and while they may have different cultural
backgrounds, they all share the love of animals.
That’s one of the reasons why Morrow’s
ESL class partnered with the Beaver County
Humane Society for a pet adoption event
and fundraiser called Pets, Prizes and a Few
Surprises V which was held in the Keystone
Oaks Middle School gymnasium.
The Humane Society brought adoptable
pets from the shelter, and the ESL program
sponsored a raffle with every cent raised going
directly to the shelter. Over the years, the
program has donated several thousand dollars
to local animal shelters and more importantly
many animals have found new homes.
Keystone Oaks
Announces 2014-15
District Calendar
Keystone Oaks schools will begin classes
Aug. 25 for the 2014-15 academic calendar.
District officials previously discussed the
possibility of delaying the start of the school
year until after Labor Day, but that was
ultimately decided against for a multitude
of reasons including less preparation time
for the standardized testing as well as the
possibility of the school year being extended
because of inclement weather, which could in
turn impact family vacation plans for district
families. The calendar was approved by a
unanimous vote of the Keystone Oaks Board
of School Directors. ■
