KEYSTONE OAKS SCHOOL DISTRICT Building a Foundation of Excellence KEYSTONE OAKS NAMED TO 9TH ANNUAL AP DISTRICT HONOR ROLL K eystone Oaks School District has been named one of 373 school districts in the U.S. and Canada being honored by the College Board with placement on the 9th Annual AP® District Honor Roll. Keystone Oaks has received this honor for increasing the number of students participating in the AP Program, while also increasing or maintaining the percentage of students earning AP Exam scores of 3 or higher. Keystone Oaks High School’s participation in the National Math & Science Initiative has had a positive impact on the number of students participating in Advanced Placement courses and on increasing students’ scores on AP exams. During the 2017-2018 school year, the first year that Keystone Oaks participated in the National Math & Science Initiative, 56 Keystone Oaks High School students earned 104 passing scores (3 or above) on AP math, science, computer science and English exams. These students, and the instructors who teach those courses, were recognized by the Board of School Directors in November for their success on the AP Exams, which equated to more than $10,000 in scholarships and an estimated $200,000 in college credit. The National Math & Science Initiative is a three-year program that strives to advance STEM teaching and learning by increasing the number of students taking and earning qualifying scores on AP math, science, computer science, and English exams. NMSI provides study sessions for students as well as resources, supplies, and professional development for teachers. At the end of the 2018-2019 school year, 166 Keystone Oaks students will have received nearly 3,000 hours of additional instruction through Saturday Study Sessions to prepare them for 350 AP Exams. For Keystone Oaks teachers, NMSI has provided nearly $30,000 in free training and resources. Keystone Oaks AP math, science, computer science and English instructors participated in 448 hour of training during the 2017-2018 school year. Additionally, nearly 40 teachers in grades 3-12 have participated in NMSI’s “Laying the Foundation” professional development program.
