OPPORTUNITIES IN
THE SOUTH HILLS
FAIRWAY SWINGERS
Are you a woman interested in playing golf
in a fun, non-competitive environment? Then
consider joining Fairway Swingers, a women’s golf
league that plays weekly at the Mt. Lebanon Golf
Course. Every Thursday from April 5 through
most of October, the group plays 9 holes, starting
anytime between 7:30 and 9 a.m. A round of golf
usually takes about 2 to 2.5 hours. Ladies of all
golfing abilities are welcome and you don’t have
to have playing partners. There are some fun
events throughout the year – a day away (playing
a course other than Mt. Lebanon), mixers, a
picnic, and some tournaments. Dues for the year
are $22 and members also pay green and cart
fees, which for 2018 will be $22 (under age 62)
or $18 (age 62 and over). You do not have to be
a Mt. Lebanon resident to join. For questions
and membership information contact Marilyn
Goodwill at [email protected].
WOMEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION OF MT. LEBANON
Women’s Golf Association of Mt. Lebanon
invites you to play every Tuesday from April
through September. Membership is open to
all women, all skill levels, residents and non-
residents. For more information call Sharon
Ackerman at 412.480.3319.

‘INSPIRED WOMEN PAYING
IT FORWARD’ LAUNCHES
IN THE SOUTH HILLS
Last fall, the very first meeting of Inspired
Women Pittsburgh South took place at the Hyatt
Place, Meadowlands. Kym Gable, of KDKA news,
is the chapter leader of the group, which will raise
money at quarterly Happy Hour meetings for
nonprofits benefiting women and girls locally and
globally.
“I’m beyond excited to help launch this first
replication of an amazing model that can really
make a difference for women and girls in need.
I’m surrounded by such dedicated, selfless
women who spend countless hours volunteering
and fundraising, but for some, the time and
energy it takes can be a challenge. This concept
just spoke to me because of its efficiency and
commitment to women,” said Gable.
The mission of this new powerhouse giving
circle is to create a space for women who have
more in their lives to take action on behalf of
women who have less.
Inspired Women Paying it Forward is open
to anyone who is interested in combining forces
with like-minded women who’ve agreed to
make a quarterly donation of $100. The impact
will be significant for the one women’s 501(c)
(3) charity nominated and selected by the
membership’s majority vote each quarter. Two
of the quarterly meetings’ donations will go to
local women’s charities, while the other two will
be for initiatives with a more global focus.
At each meeting, the names of three
nominated charities will be drawn. The
members championing those organizations
will make a short appeal on their behalf. One
deserving charity will then be selected through
a majority vote, at which point every member
writes a check for $100 made out directly to
that charity. One-hundred percent of every
check goes directly to the selected nonprofit!
There is a cash bar and food available at each
meeting, so members can stay to take advantage
of the fantastic networking opportunity. There
is no need to RSVP and the only commitment
for any expense is $400 per year – $100 per
quarter.
Inspired Women Paying it Forward started
in the North Hills in 2015, and has raised
over $50,000 for deserving women-centered
charities. The leader of that chapter, Debra
Dion Krischke, has been instrumental in
helping Gable and her committee of volunteers
establish a presence in the South Hills. To join
either chapter, go to www.InspiredWomen.com.
