GIRL SCOUT ADVENTURES !
Kick off the school year with an exciting new journey and discover fun and friendship . Erie-area girls who are in kindergarten through 12th grade , and adults , are invited to join existing troops or start a new troop !
An event will be held to learn more about scouting at Whitford Park on Thursday , Aug . 29 , from 5:30 to 6:30 p . m ., and an event in North East will be held on Thursday , Sept . 19 , at McCord Memorial Library from 5:30 to 6:30 p . m . Girls will complete a craft and learn more about the activities of the Girl Scouts .
With the help of supportive adults and troop leaders , scouts participate in handson activities in subjects ranging from STEM and the outdoors , to life skills and entrepreneurship ! These confidencebuilding skills prepare Girl Scouts to be natural leaders in the classroom and the community .
Financial assistance for memberships and uniforms is available to those who qualify . TAKE THE PLUNGE !
Get ready for the Special Olympics Polar Plunge in Lake Erie on Nov . 9 at Presque Isle State Park ! This will be the 10th year for this fun event for participants of all ages . ( Plungers under 18 will need a parent or guardian signature .) This dip in the cold water at Beach No . 7 helps to support Special Olympics athletes . Participants can take the plunge individually or as a team .
Registration and activities begin at 9 a . m ., with an opening ceremony at 11:30 , and plunging to begin at noon . New this year is the Frozen Footrace 5K , which begins at 10 a . m . It ’ s the perfect way to warm up for the Plunge .
All funds raised by this event , which is sponsored by Rebich Investments , will provide free sports , health and leadership programming for Special Olympics athletes . To register , visit northwestplunge . org .

North East in Bloom is a community service organization that focuses on beautifying the community through creating and maintaining public garden areas , gateway signs into North East , downtown hanging pots and planters , and recognizing local gardens . BEAUTIFUL MUSIC WITH THE ERIE PHILHARMONIC !
In September , the Erie Philharmonic will be presenting the music of Phil Collins and Genesis ! These concerts , on Sept . 21 and 22 , will highlight the music of the legendary band and artist , reimagined for a full orchestra .
In November , children and adults alike will be enchanted with “ Frozen in Concert .” Beloved favorites will be included , such as “ Let It Go ,” “ Do You Want to Build a Snowman ,” “ For the First Time in Forever ,” and many others . The movie will be projected on the screen above as the orchestra plays !
