SWIFT AUDIOLOGY OFFERS BREAKTHROUGH TINNITUS ASSESSMENT
Tinnitus is one of the most common health conditions in the country. In fact, nearly 50 million Americans experience it, sometimes to a debilitating degree.
For those unfamiliar, tinnitus is defined as the perception of sound in the ear when no external noise is present- it could be ringing, buzzing, hissing or roaring. Approximately 80 percent of individuals who suffer from the condition also have hearing loss. Sufferers of tinnitus should be glad to hear that a breakthrough testing device- the MedRX Tinnometer- is now available at Swift Audiology and all five office locations: Washington, Bethel Park, McCandless, Allison Park and Butler.
“ The MedRX Tinnometer provides an entirely new approach to tinnitus assessment,” said Board Certified Hearing Instrument Specialist and Owner, Debra Swift.“ We are now able to determine more precisely than ever exactly what a patient’ s tinnitus is like by determining the pitch, loudness and sound quality. By having a better understanding of a patient’ s tinnitus, we are better able to treat it.”
To introduce the new assessment tools, Swift Audiology will be offering free tinnitus assessments and treatment demonstrations the week of December 11-15 at each office.
Tinnitus could be brought on by any number of influences: noise exposure, hearing loss, middle-ear infections or obstructions, TMJ, head or neck trauma, medications, caffeine, alcohol, smoking and several health disorders.
How do patients proceed with treatment once they receive a tinnitus diagnosis? Options include sound therapy equipment and most successfully hearing aids, which are programmed to produce a low-level noise to mask out the patient’ s specific tinnitus, offering relief of the symptom. Board Certified Audiologist, Nicole Schott, who has been with Swift Audiology for over three years, said,“ I enjoy creating an individualized plan of treatment for each patient, knowing that it is set specifically to help their level of tinnitus. This new equipment allows us to be much more specific in our care.”
Also noteworthy, Swift Audiology has a built-in-advantage when it comes to audiological equipment experience. They have been in business for over 29 years and have a staff of Doctors of Audiology and Board Certified Hearing Instrument Specialist.
