DiPerna, Foronda and Hay The Professional Choice for Dental Implants and Periodontal Treatment F or more than 26 years, Dr. James DiPerna has been providing superior dental implant and periodontal treatment for patients in the Fox Chapel area and throughout the region. Along with Dr. Amber Foronda and Dr. David Hay, Dr. DiPerna offers patients a step above in periodontal therapy, treating gum disease, gum recession and placing dental implants. As all three doctors are residency-trained specialists from accredited American Dental Association (ADA) universities, namely the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine and the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, the care you receive from their practice is second to none. After four years of dental school, an additional three years of periodontal residency training is required to be titled as a specialist in Periodontics, which is one of the nine specialties in dentistry recognized by the American Dental Association. They are active members of the American Academy of Periodontology and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. Equipped with decades of experience, the latest technology available in the field and the scrutiny that comes with being a boardcertified periodontist, Dr. DiPerna’s practice is the first practice patients should turn to when they need dental implants or periodontal procedures. 24 724.942.0940 TO ADVERTISE | Hampton “Gum recession and gum disease are two of the biggest periodontal problems we treat and correcting these issues varies from patient to patient,” Dr. DiPerna said. “There is not a single technique used for all patients when treating these periodontal issues because each patient presents with a unique set of symptoms.” Periodontists are the best trained to make the decisions necessary for gum diseases and treatment. Some of the symptoms of gum disease and recession can range from the mild, such as sensitive teeth, to the more serious, such as root cavities and bleeding gums. They can be cosmetic in nature, or they may result in substantial bone loss. Dr. DiPerna said that 90 percent of their patients come from referring general dentists, dental specialists and physicians. However, patients should seek out expert opinions from periodontists if they suspect they are having irregularities with their gums or suffering with symptoms of gum disease. No direct referral is needed. “We are seeing more self-referred patients each year,” says Dr. DiPerna. With dental implants, another predominant procedure of Drs. DiPerna, Foronda and Hay’s practice, patients can expect a less invasive course of treatment than in the past. Advances in technology like cone beam CT scanners and 3D imaging mean determining the placement of your dental implants has never been more precise. “In the past we would send our patients to a major hospital for a full head CT scan, which was a lot of radiation. Today we have the ability to digitally capture a focused view of the jaws (or a specific area of the jaw), with minimal radiation, at the patient’s first visit. Today’s software and computer generated surgical guides facilitate the ideal placement of the implants and we can determine ahead of time if bone grafting will be necessary prior to placement,” Dr. DiPerna said. Implants can anchor individual teeth (for single crowns), as well as help to better retain full dentures. Patients seen in the office for implant therapy range in age from the late teens into the 90’s. All treatment is coordinated with the referring dentists, whether they are a family dentist, prosthodontist, orthodontist or other dental specialist. When patients do not have a dentist, we make a referral. Drs. DiPerna, Foronda and Hay’s Fox Chapel office (located in RIDC Park) offers patients a spacious environment and welcoming staff, digital radiographs and the most modern equipment and decor. A full back-up generator is on site to keep the office running without interruption in case of a power outage during surgical procedures. There is plentiful onsite parking, the entire building is ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant and is one level for patients with mobility issues. For more information about Drs.
