33RD ANNUAL FAMILY HOUSE POLO MATCH
For over three decades, Family House, the nation’s largest network of health care
hospitality houses, has brought the ancient sport of polo to Pittsburgh. Every September
more than 2,000 people gather at Hartwood Acres for a festive day of polo, live
entertainment, tailgating, fancy hats and fundraising.
Chaired by Laura Hartford, this year’s Family House Polo Match event took place on
Sunday, Sept. 11, and featured Howard Hanna Real Estate Services Foxlease Polo Club
versus #1 Cochran Potomac Polo Club. Gates opened at 11 a.m. for tailgating, with
opening ceremonies at 1:30 p.m. and a special recognition of the 15th anniversary of
9/11. The match began at 2 p.m. and at halftime guests were invited onto the UPMC Polo
Field to stomp the divots and visit with the Saxonburg Hunt Parade of Hounds. At the
conclusion of the match, the Family House Cup, UPMC Health Plan Most Valuable Player
and Hefren-Tillotson Best Playing Pony awards were handed out.
The family-friendly day also featured a silent auction, vintage car show, live
entertainment and plenty of fun for children, with pony rides, face painting, games, a magic
show and more. Spectators also enjoyed the Fancy Hat Contest, Sip & Shop tent with
Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Firefly Vodka, beer and wine, as well as local food trucks. Local
boutiques sold hats, jewelry, accessories and more.
