The concert, open to the public, was held in the church building on Peebles Road. Keith and Kristyn Getty occupy a unique space in the world of music today as pre- eminent modern hymn writers. In reinventing the traditional hymn form, they have created a catalogue of songs teaching Christian doctrine and crossing the genres of traditional, classical, folk and contemporary composition, which are sung the world over. The Gettys’ songs have been performed or recorded by a diverse range of artists including Alison Krauss, Ricky Skaggs, Owl City, Lyle Lovett, Newsboys, Mercy Me, Natalie Grant, Passion/Kristian Stanfill, Heather Headley, Moya Brennan and choirs from Anuna to Coventry Cathedral. They have also been selected for significant international events such as the Enthronement of the Archbishop of Canterbury and the concluding ceremony of the third Lausanne Congress. In welcoming the Gettys to Memorial Park, the MPC community hoped to provide an opportunity to come together with the surrounding Pittsburgh community regardless of faith or denomination. “We were excited to host the world-renowned hymn writers and worship leaders for the Pittsburgh area,” said lead pastor Rev. Dr. Dean Weaver. “Their song ‘In Christ Alone’ has become perhaps the most meaningful hymn for an entire generation. To have offered this concert experience to our community was a great honor!” CRAFTERS NEEDED FOR FUNDRAISER The Sisters of Divine Providence have announced that the 3rd annual Craft Extravaganza will take place on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Providence Heights—the Sisters’ historic landmark building at 9000 Babcock Boulevard in Allison Park.
