Thursday, April 9 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. In this workshop, Allegheny County Penn State Master Gardener Silloo Kapadia will teach methods to keep your plants healthy and prevent problems by making your plants more able to withstand potentially harmful organisms. This can be done using organic, cultural, physical, mechanical and biological tactics, as well as the sensible use of pesticides. Learn about appropriate plant choices, favorable growing conditions, and good gardening practices. However, when the inevitable problem does develop, you’ll be able to identify and control what specifically has damaged your plant. Registration is required. VOTER EDUCATION Wednesday, April 22 2 to 8 p.m. Allegheny County officials will be at the library to demonstrate how new voting machines work, and allow voters the chance to get familiar with how they work. This program is a drop-in program. No registration is required. WETLANDS 101 Tuesday, April 21 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Penn State Master Gardener Dianne Machesney will explain what wetlands are, the difference between a marsh, fen and bog, which types of flowers grow in these environments, and if there are any examples of them in our area.
