Hampton Celebrates Computer Science Education Week
Computer Science Education Week is an annual program dedicated to inspiring students in grades K-12 to develop an interest in computer science. Computer Science Education Week 2016 was held Dec. 5 through 11, 2016 in recognition of the birthday of computing pioneer Admiral Grace Murray Hopper( Dec. 9).
Computer in the Core coalition originally conceived the concept. Today, 350 partners and 100,000 educators worldwide support the annual campaign.
To celebrate the week, the Hampton Township School District engaged its students in various computer science activities.
All three elementary schools participated in the Hour of Code, a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in over 180 countries. The event included a one-hour tutorial designed in over 45 languages.
Students participated in a coding activity from 2:15 to 3:15 p. m. Monday through Thursday; 1 to 1:50 p. m. Monday; and 1 to 2 p. m. Friday in all three buildings. Students at Central, Poff and Wyland worked with Beebots and Puzzlets each day during their regularlyscheduled library / media times.

It is the first time the students have placed first in the challenge. The class meets from 2 to 2:45 p. m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
