HERITAGE COMMUNITY INITIATIVES MARKED FOURTH DECADE WITH A DAY OF SERVICE
Heritage Community Initiatives celebrated its anniversary with a Day of Service on June 27 , involving a food drive , free transportation , nutrition and education services and a special collection for Animal Friends . Over 500 lbs . of donations were collected for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank , and pet supplies were donated to Animal Friends . Heritage also provided a week of free rides , no parent fees and free meals for their clients . The event highlighted Heritage ’ s commitment to supporting local needs and enhancing socioeconomic mobility in Allegheny County .
WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY RECEIVES PROCLAMATION FROM THE CITY OF PITTSBURGH
The Western Pennsylvania Genealogical Society ( WPGS ) is proud to announce that it has received a proclamation from the City of Pittsburgh in honor of its 50th anniversary . The Proclamation recognizes the society ’ s dedicated efforts to preserve our collective histories and foster a deeper understanding of our roots .
Founded in 1974 , WPGS has steadfastly pursued its mission of providing the community with invaluable resources , diverse programming , mentorship , and educational opportunities . Through its initiatives , WPGS has empowered countless individuals to uncover and cherish their family histories and heritage .
Genealogical research plays a pivotal role in documenting the stories and experiences of diverse peoples who have shaped the development of our region over generations . WPGS has been a pillar of support and knowledge in the local and regional genealogy community , fostering collaboration and education among enthusiasts and historians alike .
With this proclamation , the City of Pittsburgh honors WPGS ’ s “ commitment to education , collaboration , and celebration of family history is an asset to our city , strengthening our collective identity and sense of community .”

REGISTRATION NOW OPEN FOR THE 2024 EQT PITTSBURGH 10 MILER AND 10K
Registration is now open for the 2024 EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler and 10K , celebrating Global Running Day .
Organized by P3R , the event is expected to draw over 5,000 participants on Nov . 3 . Starting near Station Square , the 10-mile course offers stunning views of Pittsburgh ’ s skyline and rivers , passing through four neighborhoods , while the 10K starts on the North Shore near PNC Park . Both races finish on Liberty Avenue in Downtown Pittsburgh . The event is part of P3R ’ s new Triple Crown Challenge , offering a special edition medal for those who also participate in the DICK ’ S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend and America ’ s Mile .
