Please register online at ghal.org using the Event Calendar or by calling 724.837.5620. C HILDREN’S AND TEEN PROGRAMS: Read to Kaya’s Friends! (3 years and older) Saturdays, Oct. 27, Nov. 17, Dec. 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This program is for anyone (3 years old and up) who would enjoy or benefit from reading to a therapy dog. Bring along a favorite book or two, or choose from our selection and spend some time reading to the therapy dogs. There is no advance registration for this program, and we will accommodate as many children as possible during the hour. Haunted Cellar Monday, Oct. 29, and Tuesday, Oct. 30, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Come take a walk through our Haunted Cellar in the lower level of the library. This program is for everyone who likes to be scared (recommended age is 9 or older). No registration is necessary. Chess Club (8 years through adult) Saturdays, Nov. 13 and Dec. 8, at 10 a.m. Calling all chess players! This group is a friendly, intergenerational group for people who like chess! In these informal sessions hosted by Oliver Kiefer (a teacher at Greater Latrobe School District), we will learn from each other and enjoy the opportunity to play games against each other. Everyone ages 8 and older who loves chess is invited. All levels of play are welcome. Please note, participants should come with some knowledge of how to play. This will not be a chess instructional session. Winter Wonderland  to 5-Year-Olds 3 Story Hour (ages 3 to 5 years) Wednesday, Dec. 5, and Thursday, Dec. 6, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Take a stroll down Candy Cane Lane in the lower level of the library. Decorations, cookies, activities and crafts! Don’t forget to bring your camera. No registration is necessary. Tuesdays, Oct. 30 to Dec. 4, from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Come for fun with circle time, stories, crafts, treats and more! ADULT PROGRAMS: Adult Basic & Literacy Education Program  torytime for 2s S (ages 2 years) Wednesdays, Oct. 31 to Dec. 5, from 10 to 10:30 a.m. This storytime is for parent and child—one-on-one. Come and enjoy this time of fun and education with your toddler. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1:30 to 4 p.m. This program is presented by Westmoreland Intermediate Unit 1. The types of classes that are offered range from Literacy and English as a Second Language, to Adult Basic Education and High School Equivalency. TOMP IT! CLAP IT! SWEEP IT! BANG IT! S (ages 6 to 10 years) Monday, Nov. 5, at 6 p.m. Can music come from things like garbage cans, brooms, or buckets? Yes, it can! Ask the group STOMP, who prove that anything can be a musical instrument. Come explore the sounds different objects can make with Patty Graff!   Fairytale Forest (ages 3 to 5 years) Tuesdays, Nov. 6 and Dec. 11, at 6 p.m. Welcome to the magical world of fairytales! Come to the library to help some of your favorite fairytale characters travel through the forest without being caught by the big, bad wolf. Wednesdays, Oct. 24 and Nov. 28, at 6 p.m. We will explore new chefs and new cuisines while we make new friends. We will share experiences and recipes and laughs over food prepared by our group. A Macabre Masquerade: Library Libations Saturday, Nov. 10, from 6 to 9 p.m. Join us for our largest annual fundraiser as we enjoy an evening celebration of Poe. Come to the library in costume if you choose and enjoy a festive evening of heavy hors d’oeuvres, open wine and beer bar, DJ Glen Smith and raffles galore. Tickets are $75 per person, and advance registration is preferred. There will be tickets at the door if space allows. Handmade for the Holidays Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 6 p.m. Come craft your holidays! Everyone age 16 and older is invited to come make cards, decorations and other small crafts to make your holiday sparkle. All levels of crafting experience and ability are welcome!
