“In order to meet our student’s
needs, we have to also
individualize and personalize
education.”
A
nother glorious fall is upon us in Golden Lion
Country! Auditoriums, gymnasiums and fields
are filled with the sights and sounds of student
learning and the fruits of student and staff labor.
Whiteboards are filled, computer keypads are tapping,
bands are marching, contests are being held and
everywhere you look student days are filled with many
enriching and life changing moments. Student and staff
energy is contagious and uplifting!
This year at Greensburg Salem, you will observe us
focusing on one of the key goals in our strategic plan
which is to implement and expand programs focused
on college and career readiness and preparation for
the workforce. As we shared in past magazines, the
workplace continues to change. Today’s jobs are evolving
as interesting blends of technology, human interactions
and discreet skills. We are working with many community
and higher education partners to explore careers with
students, even at very early ages, to have them begin to
think of possibilities and match a career to their interests,
skills and passions.
In order to meet our student’s needs, we have to also
individualize and personalize education. We may have
a student who wants to work in banking in international
markets so they need a blend of math and foreign
languages. We may have a student who wants to be
a mining engineer with an emphasis in conservation.
They might need a blend of science, math, technology,
creativity and communication. We may have a budding
musical artist or prospective art therapist. We need, as
a school entity, to make sure that students are given
a variety of experiences in their school careers to
explore and engage in a myriad of areas to learn about
themselves and have the background needed to take
their eventual place in the adult world.
This month in our magazine, you will be able to
see students and staff experiencing new and exciting
learning experiences in many different areas of school
and curricular life. We celebrate the diversity of our
student body and love that our students can learn from
seeing the path others. This leads to them being great
neighbors, community leaders and workplace employees
in adult life. Our students at Greensburg Salem have been
taught by staff to enjoy seeing emerging challenges and
apply modern ways of thinking to those challenges. We
emphasize that growth is learning from both successes
and failures.
We are proud of the stories showcased this month and
hope you enjoy reading about some of this season’s finest
accomplishments!
