Artistic Director Daniel Meyer conducted the WSO’s opening evening performance. As
Music Director of the Erie Philharmonic and the Asheville Symphony, Meyer is recognized as
one of the top young conductors of his generation.

ABOUT THE WESTMORELAND SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra began in 1969 when a group of community
leaders and musicians assembled an orchestra for several concerts at a local high school. Now,
48 years later, the WSO brings world-class soloists to the concert stage. Under the artistic
direction of Daniel Meyer, the WSO presents four classical concerts and one holiday pops,
all at the Palace Theatre in downtown Greensburg. The WSO’s Academy of Music provides
educational programs including the Young People’s Concert, Summer Philharmonic, Youth

WSO’S ACADEMY OF MUSIC ANNOUNCES COURSE

The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra announced its fall course offerings through its
Academy of Music, located at 951 Old Salem Road in the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center.
Course offerings include:
WYSO String Ensemble serves elementary string students who
study privately and wish to perform in a group setting. It meets
Monday evenings from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. through Nov. 28 with
Matthew Hettinga at the Academy of Music. Tuition fee is $99.
WYSO Philharmonia is a middle
level orchestra, comprised of
String Ensemble Alumni, middle
school students and others hoping
to eventually audition for the
WYSO Philharmonic. It meets
Saturdays from 9:30 to 11:30
a.m. Although no audition is required, a recommendation from
your private music teacher or school music teacher is necessary.
Fall semester runs through mid-November. Tuition: $135 per
semester; second child is $90.

WYSO is open to mostly high school
students who play string, wind, brass or
percussion instruments, though some
advanced middle school students are
accepted. The fall semester runs through
mid-Nov. The semester’s tuition is $215.
Private Lessons for All Ages
The Academy of Music offers 30-, 45- and 60-minute private lessons for string players,
vocalists and flutists of all ages.
