“In fact, the National Endowment for the
Arts has awarded GAC three consecutive
$20,000 grants for these types of community
services, which is practically unheard of,” says
Pollock. “We regularly host live music and
artist receptions to complement many of our
exhibits, free to the public. On site concerts,
wine and food tastings with mini art auctions,
craft beer and food tastings with local crafts,
and other paid events help support the
operations of our center.”
The GAC has no paid staff and is run
entirely by volunteers. The Executive Board is
hard working and plans and implements all of
the programs, makes the policies and oversees
all operations. The group has nearly tripled
its membership over the past decade, drawing
members from all backgrounds and all levels
of experience—from respected professionals
to complete novices as well as persons who
simply come to appreciate and support the
arts.
Classes and workshops are offered to
children from preschool to teens and adults
at all levels of experience and in all mediums.
GAC goes well beyond the typical drawing,
painting and kids classes to include pottery,
printmaking, jewelry, mosaics, textiles,
darkroom practices as well as art history.

private time with the center’s specialized

public.
The center also serves as a year round
venue for changing exhibits that are free to
the public, and an ongoing artisan market
that features exceptional crafts at reasonable
prices—a local destination source for
handcrafted gifts.
“The center is constantly evolving, vibrant
and receptive to even more creative ventures,”
says Pollock. “All in all, if anyone has any kind
of interest in the visual arts and enjoys sharing
their love with like-minded people, they will
find a home in the Greensburg Art Center.” n
