Young students with Education Chair, Nancy Dalverny. “In fact, the National Endowment for the Arts has awarded GAC three consecutive $20,000 grants for these types of community services, which is practically unheard of,” says Pollock. “We regularly host live music and artist receptions to complement many of our exhibits, free to the public. On site concerts, wine and food tastings with mini art auctions, craft beer and food tastings with local crafts, and other paid events help support the operations of our center.” The GAC has no paid staff and is run entirely by volunteers. The Executive Board is hard working and plans and implements all of the programs, makes the policies and oversees all operations. The group has nearly tripled its membership over the past decade, drawing members from all backgrounds and all levels of experience—from respected professionals to complete novices as well as persons who simply come to appreciate and support the arts. Classes and workshops are offered to children from preschool to teens and adults at all levels of experience and in all mediums. GAC goes well beyond the typical drawing, painting and kids classes to include pottery, printmaking, jewelry, mosaics, textiles, darkroom practices as well as art history. Private studio rentals by individuals and groups are available to those interested in At the Artist reception of “Contemporaries” — artist Sarah Hunter. private time with the center’s specialized equipment not typically available to the public.
