Hutchinson Elementary Student Honored for Achievement in the Arts
PTA Reflections is a nationally acclaimed student recognition
program to encourage artistic creativity in the classroom and at
home. Students of all grades and abilities are able to participate
and explore the arts based on the 2016-2017 theme: What Is Your
Story? The students were able to choose from the categories: Dance
Choreography, Film Production,
Literature, Music Composition,
Photography, or Visual Arts.

has been honored by Hutchinson
PTA for achievement in the 2016-
2017 National PTA Reflections,
arts in education program.
Delaney’s project, titled “This is
My Story” has been awarded 2nd
place in the Pennsylvania PTA
State Reflections competition, in
the Primary division of the Film
Production category. In order
for Delaney to attend states she
obtained 1st place at her local district and 3rd place at regionals.
When asked her favorite part of creating her movie, Delaney stated,
“I liked moving the things around because we used stop motion. We
moved them around and took pictures to make the video.”
In addition to Delaney, ten other students were recognized for
their achievements at the local level of the competition:

Tanner Shirey- 1st Place, Intermediate Literature
Angel Atkinson- 2nd Place, Intermediate Literature
Callie Shirey- 1st Place, Intermediate Art
Mia Hoffman- 2nd Place, Intermediate Art

Blessing Gantt- Honorable Mention, Intermediate Art
Eli Graft- 1st Place, Primary Art
Thomas Epler- 2nd Place, Primary Art

“The skills, talents, and pieces of work these children created are
very impressive! We are all very proud of the accomplishments of
the students of Amos K. Hutchinson Elementary School,” stated Mr.
Anthony Barbato, the Acting Associate Principal.

Autism Society Supported by Middle
School Olympics
The 4th Annual GSMS Olympics was held in March to raise money for the
Autism Society of America, Westmoreland Affiliate. Nearly 90 competitors
signed up to participate by purchasing an Olympic t-shirt designed by
SCA members. This year’s events included Bottle Flipping, Bobsled, Angle
Ball, Volleyball, Jump Rope, Basketball, and the Potato Sack Race. SCA
awarded 39 gold, silver, and bronze medals and raised $502.00 through
their efforts.

GSEF Strives to Make a Difference
Greensburg Salem Education Foundation continues to help support classroom and
school initiatives that impact students and teachers in a positive way. Most recently, seven
Golden Apple Grants were awarded to GS faculty and student members whose projects
support the goals of GSEF. The Winter 2016 awardees and their projects are:
