BOWL FOR KIDS’ SAKE
STRIKES BIG!
Bowl for Kids’ Sake is more than just a
bowling party – it’s how Big Brothers Big
Sisters of the Laurel Region raises money
to recruit and screen volunteers, create lifechanging matches between Bigs and Littles,
and provide ongoing support to children and
families. Every time you donate your time or
money to Bowl for Kids’ Sake, you are helping
to start a child on a new path.
This year’s event took place on Mar. 19
and 20 at Hillview Lanes in Greensburg. The
organization would like to extend its sincere
appreciation for making this year’s event a
success, however it is still short of the $72,000
goal by $3,000. Donations are being accepted
at firstgiving.com/bbbslr to support local
children facing adversity.
TV SPOTLIGHT FOR THE
GREENSBURG COUNTRY
CLUB
The Greensburg Country Club and its
Michael Vucinich Memorial Pro-4 Junior
Championship was featured on the Golf
Channel’s Morning Drive on Thursday, Mar.
17, as part of a spotlight on the Tri-State PGA
Section. The spotlight is part of this year’s
PGA of America’s Centennial Celebration.
Michael Vucinich was the Head PGA
Professional at Greensburg Country Club
and a Tri-State PGA Section Hall of Fame
member who made junior golf instruction
his top priority. Vucinich taught hundreds
of kids to play golf — 14 of whom are now
PGA Professionals across the country today,
including current Greensburg Country Club
Head PGA Professional Chuck Qualey.
Vucinich was so dedicated to his junior golfers
that when his doctors discovered a brain

tumor in 2004 and wanted to run more tests
the next day, he declined because he had to
run a junior golf program that day. He passed
away in 2005 at the age of 54.
In 2008, Vucinich’s wife, Gloria, and the
Tri-State PGA Section board of directors
created the Michael Vucinich Memorial Pro-4
Junior Championship in his honor. The
tournament pairs four local junior golfers with
the Tri-State PGA Professional at their clubs.
ART-IN-CAN
COLLABORATION
Rivertowne Brewing proudly sponsored
The Westmoreland Museum of American
Art’s opening reception for Telling Tales:
Stories and Legends in 19th-century American
Art. This in-kind sponsorship of craft beer
served not only as a refreshment offering at
the Mar. 5 exhibition opening from 6:30 to
8 p.m., but the empty cans were upcycled
after the event at the museum’s April Pop-Up
Studio. In the studio hosted by artist Paula
Schutte, participants manipulated metal,
twisted wire, bent, cut, folded and pounded
aluminum cans to create their own Alexander
Calder-inspired bird in flight. This upcycling
of materials adheres to both the brewery’s and
museum’s mission of green operations.
