GREENSBURG YMCA OFFERING NEW COFFEE AND CONVERSATION PROGRAM
A new program to discuss topical health and wellness issues and learn more about the Greensburg YMCA is being offered in 2024 .
Titled “ Coffee and Conversation ,” the first installment of the monthly program was held Jan . 12 from 11:30 a . m . to 12:30 p . m . and led by Membership Coordinator Maryellen Haddock .
“ The monthly discussions will include various topics of interest , including nutrition , healthy aging , exercise and getting to know the community ,” said Haddock . “ We will also have our Y staff , including GroupEx instructors there to provide information on our Y and the programming we offer that make the Y the place you want to be .”

PITTSBURGH OPERA CONTINUES ITS 2023 – 24 SEASON WITH TWO INTIMATE OPERAS CREATED 237 YEARS APART
The first opera , “ Iphigénie en Tauride ,” was composed in 1779 by Christoph Willibald Gluck . Based on Euripides ’ great Greek drama “ Iphigenia in Taurus ,” it is the powerful Trojan War-era tale of a sister whose duty requires that she kill a man who turns out to be her brother .
The second , “ Proving Up ,” premiered in 2016 . Composed by Grammy nominee Missy Mazzoli , with a libretto by Royce Vavrek based on a short story by Karen Russell , it “ offers a surreal and disquieting commentary on the American dream through the story of a 19th century Nebraskan homesteading family .”
“ Iphigénie en Tauride ” is being performed at the CAPA Theater Jan . 20- 28 , and “ Proving Up ” will be performed at the Bitz Opera Factory Feb . 17-25 .
Combined , these two operas showcase the art form ’ s heritage and illustrate its continued relevance and staying power . They demonstrate opera ’ s unique ability to combine music , singing , and stagecraft to tell compelling human stories . Both also showcase Pittsburgh Opera ’ s awardwinning Resident Artists .

NORTH PITTSBURGH QUILTERS GUILD SPRING QUILT SHOW
The North Pittsburgh Quilters Guild is hosting a spring quilt show , “ Let ’ s Go Crazy ,” April 19-21 at the Ross Township Community Center , located at 1000 Ross Municipal Drive ( 15237 ). Hours are 10 a . m . to 5 p . m . on Friday and Saturday and noon until 4 p . m . on Sunday . Admission is $ 10 and there is free parking .
Quilts of all types and sizes will be on display with an emphasis on items made using the Crazy Quilting technique . This technique lends itself to all kinds of artistic and interesting projects . Additionally there will be a full-size bed quilt raffle , specialty vendors , raffles baskets and a Treasure Chest Room with fabric and other quilting “ finds .” There will also be a daily “ Walk and Talk ” with a certified quilt show judge , providing insight into what gave the winning quilts their edge .
