Mary Beth grateful for surgeries at Forbes Mary Beth Brevko, 61, didn’t want to miss her appointment with her gallbladder surgeon. But that morning, following a fall, she was busy at Forbes Hospital being tested for a possible stroke. Surgeon Richard Payha, MD, came to her hospital bed, examined her, and confi rmed that she needed her gallbladder removed. That was when Mary Beth knew she had found the surgeon she wanted. “From the moment I met Dr. Payha, I instantly felt relieved and assured that my health was going to be in good hands. His wonderful demeanor puts you at ease,” she said. “I have been through many surgeries in my lifetime, and this is the fi rst time I witnessed, fi rst hand, the kindness, compassion, and ‘teaching spirit’ in the OR with any surgeon. Dr. Payha treats everyone with respect.” “Because I’m a breast cancer survivor, I knew he was also a breast surgeon,” she said. “I showed him the lump I’d found and asked if he’d do that surgery, too.” Mary Beth had successful gallbladder surgery and a breast lumpectomy at Forbes Hospital. “Everyone there is amazing,” she said. “They don’t seem to be tired and overworked. I will never go anywhere else.” Mary Beth had no lasting eff ects from her stroke, and is getting her preventive screenings. Best of all, she is here to enjoy big, Slovak holiday dinners with her family. 1 IN 8 WOMEN 3.5 MILLION WILL DEVELOP BREAST CANCER IN HER LIFETIME* BREAST CANCER SURVIVORS IN THE U.S.* “Dr. Payha is truly a gifted surgeon.” MARY BETH BREVKO 40% DROP IN DEATHS FROM FEMALE BREAST CANCER SINCE 1989* * American Cancer Society, cancer.org/latest-news/facts-and-fi gures-2019.html
