GS Team Digs Pink for a Cure
GS Girls Volleyball section champs teamed up with their coaches and parent boosters to support a GS mom diagnosed with breast cancer. The group planned a“ Pink Out” night and a number of fundraising activities to take place at home game this past October. Between the junior varsity and varsity games, the girls announced the names of people they knew who were affected by cancer and released over 200 balloons in honor of those who have lost their lives to disease. Through the sale of pink out T-shirts and other activities during the game, the team was able to raise over $ 900 for the GS mom. She was truly appreciative of the night planned in her honor, is thankful for her friends, family and GS supporters, and remains positive. Think pink!

Wireless Network Updates as Need for Wi-Fi Grows
Greensburg Salem is in the midst of getting a major upgrade to wireless network infrastructure throughout the district’ s buildings. Much of the existing wireless network was deployed almost nine years ago when Classroom for the Futures( CFF) grant monies were used to purchase numerous mobile carts within the High School. The previous access points followed the 802.11n standards. With the new access points utilizing 802.11ac standards, speeds may increase up to three times faster.
Coordinator of Technology Chris Suppo expressed,“ This is a welcomed change as the
district utilizes many more wireless devices in comparison to the past. Our existing wireless network worked well for many years but was in serious need of upgrading.” Laptops, iPads, tablets, and personal devices are regularly used within many classrooms. Many of these devices are used to access online curriculum resources and activities to supplement instruction. The upgrade includes adding some additional access points where some weak spots existed.
The new wireless upgrade was made possible by combining some local dollars with Federal E-Rate funding. Business manager James Myer indicated,“ Through the E-Rate program and the district seeking Category Two funding, we were able to secure $ 142,000.00 of Federal funding to upgrade our wireless network.”
