Learning is a Lifelong Experience
I
n our magazine this month, we have featured various
partnerships the district has formed that benefit students.
We are lucky at Greensburg Salem to have surrounding
community organizations and institutions of higher learning
that are eager and willing to work with us to serve our
community and its young people. You can learn about some
ventures we have participated in such as our preschool
partnership that begins before age five. You can also read about
the Reading for Lifelong Learning program that pairs college
students with our students. Along with the featured stories, you
are welcome to visit and see the many daily instances where our
partners are serving students within our walls.
Also highlighted are some of the unique stories of our
students and the impact their educational experiences have
had on their growth. The journeys that have been captured
illustrate how teachers, parents and community members
work together to bring a host of learning experiences to our
students. The students featured demonstrate how our learning
community continues to celebrate and nurture the unique
qualities and talents that young people have and grow them in
their uniqueness rather than bring them to conform to others.
As we continue to see our students excel during their years with
us as well as long beyond, we are proud of our staff, parents
and community for embracing values such as effort, creativity,
empathy and support.
This month we have taken time to showcase teacher
professional development. From the rigorous teacher induction
program to teachers attending trainings and workshops
and collaborating with colleagues, our staff models for our
young people the value and benefit of lifelong learning.

The Greensburg Salem staff takes great pride in staying abreast of
the latest educational research and using best practice to educate
students. Teachers must continue to learn and apply their learning to
improve their instruction and grow as educators. When that occurs,
students get to benefit from new ideas and innovative strategies as
teachers bring to them exciting new learning opportunities.
Greensburg Salem continues to be a stellar learning community.
That comes from a commitment from staff, families, and communities
to work together and support educational opportunities for our young
people. As a district, we continue to move forward in our focus on
career and college readiness and adequately preparing our students
for a new and ever-evolving workplace. Taking a step in that direction,
our secondary teachers recently visited our Career and Technical
Training Center as well as the Advanced Technology Center at the
Community College so they can encourage our students and share
with them possibilities that are available as they craft pathways to
their futures. Along those lines, the district’s work with the Forum for
Workforce Development is steadily moving forward as we partner with
our fellow county school districts, business and industry to open doors
for students to learn about future opportunities for them in the region.
