Farewell, Friends! “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” -Winnie the Pooh Eileen Amato and Family T he sentiments of A. A. Milne, eloquently delivered through his beloved Pooh character, express the bittersweet emotions felt by Golden Lions young and old as two of Greensburg Salem’s finest leaders depart for the next adventures of their lives. This summer, we bid farewell to Superintendent Dr. Eileen Amato, an exceptional leader and mentor, who retired in early August. Dr. Amato took the helm as Greensburg Salem’s first female superintendent in 2011, upholding the standard for a tradition of excellence through her inspirational and collaborative leadership style. Dr. Amato’s vast experience as a teacher, principal, and central office administrator enabled her to relate to students and staff alike through a deeper understanding of school district operations. At the heart of every decision was the impact it would play on students, as they were always her central focus. She challenged and inspired students to find their special gifts and talents and use those to make their family, community and world a better place. Her supportive smile, positive presence and school spirit at academic, athletic, and arts events will be sorely missed, but we know even in retirement, she will continue to have the heart of a Lion. Our dedicated, selfless, and humble Athletic Director, Lynn Jobe, closed her athletic office door for the last time in June, ready to tackle her retirement head on. A pillar of all that Greensburg Salem Eileen Amato exemplifies, Lynn, a former athlete and and Lynn Jobe graduate of GS, has served as a teacher, coach and mentor to thousands during her 35 years working with the district. She has instilled self-confidence, leadership, perseverance and accountability in student-athletes and coaches, creating a culture of positive sportsmanship and laying the foundation of these essential core values. Over the years, Lynn has witnessed the transformation of many of her former students and players into team captains and coaching staff who continue to uphold the spirit of teamwork and excellence we advocate at Greensburg Salem. She has performed her role graciously and with integrity, modeling the very values she promotes through athletics. We will certainly continue to see Lynn rooting from the stands this year in her brown and gold because once a Golden Lion, always a Golden Lion! It is with great anticipation and excitement that we welcome the newest additions to our Greensburg Salem family. The beginning of the school year is a revitalizing time, with opportunities to develop new relationships, create new goals and embark on new challenges. Our incoming leaders will bring personal experiences and fresh perspectives to support the mission of Greensburg Salem School District, and we extend a warm welcome to our new Superintendent and Athletic Director. Best wishes to all for a spectacular 2018-2019 school year!
