The Greensburg Hempfield Area Library has the following programs lined up for the fall. We anticipate more events as the seasons change, so please check the Events page on our website for any updates and additions. Advance registration is required for most programs. CHILDREN’ S PROGRAMS
3 to 5 Year Old Story Hour( ages 3 to 5) Tuesdays, Sept. 19 through Nov. 28, from 10 to 11:15 a. m. Come for fun with circle time, stories, crafts, treats and more!
Storytime for 2s( age 2) Wednesdays, Sept. 20 through Nov. 29, from 10 to 10:30 a. m. This storytime is for parent and child— one-on-one. Come and enjoy this time of fun and education with your toddler.
Baby Lapsit( ages 8 months to 2 years) Thursdays, Sept. 21 through Nov. 30, from 10 to 10:30 a. m. * Not on Thursday, Nov. 23( Thanksgiving Day). An interactive program of rhymes, fingerplays and stories for your baby and you!
Haunted Cellar( Recommended for ages 8 and older) Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 24 & 25, from 5 to 7:30 p. m. This event is for anyone who likes to be scared! Strobe lights may be used. Please check our online event calendar closer to the date. No registration is necessary.
Winter Wonderland( all ages) Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 6 & 7, from 5:30 to 7:30 p. m. We will have our annual Winter Wonderland in conjunction with Luminary Night in Greensburg. No registration is necessary. Come and enjoy holiday cheer with the whole family!

Computer 101 Tuesday, Sept. 5, from 6 to 8 p. m. Beginner computer class that explains the very barebones basics of computers.
Computer 201 Tuesday, Sept. 26, from 6 to 8 p. m. A step up from the Computer 101 program for those who know more than just the basics.
Greensburg Then and Now Saturday, Sept. 30, at 2 p. m. Presenter: Tom Harrold of the Baltzer Meyer Historical Society. A photographic presentation of Greensburg’ s past and present, featuring buildings, people and industry. The history of some of these photos are woven into the program.
Classical Encounters Saturday, Oct. 7, from 1:30 to 2:45 p. m. Presenter: Morrie Brand One of four music appreciation mini-courses designed to explore four basic periods of music – Baroque, Classical, Romantic and 20th Century. These sessions are ideal for people who wish to sharpen their listening skills.
Getting Started in Genealogy Saturday, Oct. 14, from 10 to 11:30 a. m. Curious about your family history, but don’ t know where to start? Learn what resources the Greensburg Hempfield Area Library has and how to start your search for your family origins.

Book Signing: Voices from the Attic Thursday, Oct. 26, from 6:30 to 8 p. m. Presenter: Carleton Young Rediscovered after one and a half centuries, letters between two brothers offer a valuable source of information as seen through the eyes of soldiers as they fought in America’ s Civil War. Using excerpts from the letters, which are filled with in-depth accounts of battles and Army life, the author weaves together their dramatic narrative into the context of the war.

Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History by Elizabeth Kolbert STEM Book Discussion Tuesday, Oct. 3, from 6 to 8:30 p. m. The Pulitzer Prize-winning book argues that Earth is in the midst of a modern, man-made sixth extinction.
Silent Spring by Rachel Carson STEM Book Discussion Thursday, Oct. 12, from 6:30 to 8:30 p. m. For as long as humans have dwelt on this planet, spring has been the season of rebirth and singing of birds. Carson, after much research and many obstacles, discusses the dangers of ignoring the“ balance of nature.”
The Brethren by John Grisham First-ever Men’ s Book Discussion( everyone is welcome) In a minimum-security prison, three former judges call themselves“ The Brethren.” They meet each day in the law library and start a mail scam. They scam the wrong victim, a powerful man with dangerous friends.

Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton Men’ s Book Discussion Thursday, Dec. 14, from 6:30 to 8:30 p. m. A hair-raising 24 hours on a remote jungle island, attempting to avert global emergency. A crisis is triggered by the government and scientists attempting to commercialize genetic engineering.
