News | ATHLETICS A preview from coaches of what’s ahead in the spring season. BOYS’ TENNIS BASEBALL Even though boys’ tennis lost key starters at Second Singles and First Doubles, the coaches have high expectations for the league and state championships.  They hope that other players seize the opportunity and step up, and that work in the off- season will be evident.  The expectation is to challenge for the league and district titles and qualify for state playoffs. In singles, State Singles Silver Medalist Sameer Gangoli (Gold in 2018) is looking to round out his amazing high school career with league, district and state titles to go along with his previous titles at all three levels. Along with returning starters, such as Amish Saini, Stephen Coelho, and Adit Awatramani, the core of the team remains strong. Coming into the 2020 season, the Patriots will rely heavily on the young arms of junior pitchers Keenan Metrick and Justin Harrison.  Both pitchers saw time on the mound last year and have worked hard over the summer and off-season to come in this year ready to compete.  The team will look to their returning seniors, Dean Sioutis (C) Connor Ryan (OF) and Jacob Baugher (INF), to lead the offensive charge.  Although there are questions as to who will be in this season’s starting lineup, the players are working hard and hoping to earn a spot. The coaches are hoping the competition in practice continues and that the team members continue to push each other to get better.  The Ches-Mont League boasts some of the best pitchers and teams in the state, making competition fun and exciting for the Great Valley team. BOYS’ LACROSSE The 2020 Great Valley Boys’ Lacrosse team is entering the spring after another strong off-season. Players have been working hard and are once again setting their sights on making an impact in the highly competitive Ches-Mont Boys’ Lacrosse League. Roster numbers are as high as they have been in years with large freshman, sophomore, and junior classes anchored by our three returning seniors: face-off midfielder, Dom Caniglia; goalie, Zach McCarthy; and defenseman, Mark Sabatini. The Patriots Boys’ Lacrosse Team is excited to take the field with the goal of earning a spot in the playoffs in May. 24 GREAT VALLEY SOFTBALL There is a hopeful outlook for the softball team this year after a four-win season in 2019. Following the loss of three key players to graduation, the team will look for leadership and competitive play, led by Seniors Corine McCarthy, Katie Olafson and Marina Nadwodny.
