Its mission is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need. Volunteers do this by giving them gifts of new, handmade blankets, quilts and afghans, lovingly created for Project Linus by volunteer “blanketeers.” The blanketeers are part of the mission as well— seeking to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities for the benefit of children. Let the staff introduce you to residents who like to play card games, read poetry, do puzzles or get outdoors for a stroll. But most important, they would appreciate meeting someone just to talk with. Could that someone be YOU? Days and times are flexible. Visit the website for more information. NORTH COUNTRY MEALS ON WHEELS THE STRAND THEATER INITIATIVE Put a smile on a senior’s face in your neighborhood this winter! RHWPA is a therapeutic horseback riding program that has helped children and young adults with disabilities for well over 30 years. It is run entirely by volunteers and funded exclusively by donations, fundraising and grants. Spend time with your teens, ages 14 to 18, and after training, volunteer as sidewalkers and horseleaders. Don’t have time? Give monetary donations or wish list items found on the website. This holiday season, make a monetary gift or volunteer to keep the historic Strand Theater going in 2017 and for generations to come— and be inspired by the fantastic holiday performances! The Strand Theater Initiative is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to making it a cultural center for the performing arts in the North Pittsburgh region. Visit the website for ways to get involved—from ushering at shows to organizing special events. Contact: mealsonwheelsamerica.org Keep our neighboring seniors happy and healthy this winter!
