IN Fox Chapel Area Winter 2013 | Page 11

The winter issue of IN Fox Chapel Area Community Magazine highlights the outstanding accomplishments of our students and staff throughout the Fox Chapel Area School District. You will read about the amazing scientific accomplishments of Mihir Garimella, our eight National Merit Semifinalists, and many athletic achievements in this edition of the magazine. I am very proud to present the new Creativity and Literacy Program at Kerr Elementary School. This innovative center is a state-of-the-art learning facility that will focus on the development of preschool students, while also being available to students working on projects at other grade levels. Several evening sessions for parents and students will also be held during the school year at Volunteers of America’s All of Us Care location in Sharpsburg. This will be my final letter to the residents of the Fox Chapel Area School District due to my plans to retire from education in December 2013. I have enjoyed my eight years in the district and I am proud of the many accomplishments of our staff and students as we raised the bar continuously at each grade level. The Board of School Directors is currently in the process of working with the Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA) to complete a national search for the next superintendent. Their goal is to find the right person who will keep this amazing school district focused on providing a superior education for each child by maximizing student learning, achievement, and development. Following are two quotes that I keep on my desk as reminders of who I try to be as an educator and as a person: “Unless a man believes in himself and makes a total commitment to his career and puts everything he has into it – his mind, his body, and his heart – what is life worth to him? If I were a salesman, I would make this commitment to my company, to the product, and most of all, to myself.” Vince Lombardi & Vince Lombardi Jr. “People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Maya Angelou Thank you for your support and encouragement throughout the years. Sincerely, Anne E.
