The Preferred Realty’s Linda Pelkofer

I
t seems like everyone in the Fox Chapel area knows
of Linda Pelkofer. That’s because she’s been helping
homeowners buy and sell their homes for over 33 years.
You don’t get that kind of longevity without doing
something right, and Pelkofer attributes her success to referrals
from satisfied clients and her dedication to mailings.
“People know me because I’m on their refrigerator and in
their mailbox,” she said. “And I’ve been around a while, so there
are lots of referrals and repeat clients. There are homes that I’ve
sold four times in my career and there are clients where I’ve
represented multiple generations of their families.”
Add into the mix that Pelkofer is happy to serve everyone,
whether they’re looking at a starter home or downsizing from a
sizable estate. She’s willing to help people relocate across town
or across the country, and credits her detailed knowledge of
Western Pennsylvania to a boss she had when she first started.
“I had a manager who made me learn all of the North Hills
when I first started out—to Cranberry and beyond,” Pelkofer
explained. “She continued to have me master different areas
and, eventually, even though I was born and raised in the East
End, I knew every neighborhood you could want to live in
around Pittsburgh.”
In addition to being a regional expert, Pelkofer is a past
member of the Board of Directors, and currently serving on
committees, for the REALTORS® Association of Metropolitan
Pittsburgh, an organization that named her the 2015 REALTOR®
of the Year. She is a Certified Residential Specialist, a Military
Relocation Professional, GREEN designated REALTOR® and
a Seniors Real Estate Specialist. She’s also received the
Northwood Realty Dream Award in 2015, along with being a
previous Northwood Legendary Service Award winner when
The Preferred Realty
the brokerage did business under the Northwood Realty
Services name.
Despite all of the professional accolades, Pelkofer said that it’s
her charity work that means the most to her.
“Being in real estate brought me into a whole new world of
charitable endeavors. This is my joy in real estate,” she said. In
fact, Pelkofer started The Pink Tag Sale after approaching her
manager about all of the items that moving clients leave at the
curb on moving day.
“I saw all these things that people were throwing away—
furniture, appliances, clothing—and I said, ‘Why don’t we create
some type of sale where we pick the items up and sell them for
charity?’” she recalls. “We named it The Pink Tag Sale and raised
$585 for Komen Race for the Cure in the first year. We do two
sales a year now in May and October and collectively, over 12
years, we’ve raised over $64,000. That’s how much it’s grown.
Our whole office works on this and we really enjoy doing it.”
Other charities supported by Pelkofer and her colleagues
include cat sanctuaries, anti-human trafficking organizations,
veterans groups and more.
So it’s no surprise that Pelkofer is also involved with the
Northwood Charitable Foundation, which raises money for
housing-related charities such as the Fisher House for Veterans
in Oakland, to which they’ve given more than $110,000 through
the years.
