“ Karen is unequaled on every level! She has a strong business background, mixed with high energy, great compassion, understanding, and is a pleasure to deal with at all times. She is very present with whatever she is dealing with. She has sold two homes and purchased one with me with velvet gloves!”

With more than 30 years of selling and negotiating experience behind her, Karen Connor’ s transition to the real estate industry was a natural fit. Connor began selling technology to banks in 1987. Her sales and financial services background serves her well as a Realtor ® with RE / MAX Select Realty. She has been helping clients buy and sell homes in the Fox Chapel market, where she raised her family and has become a specialist for seniors looking to downsize into a more manageable living situation.

“ I earned the Senior Real Estate Specialist designation, SRES ®, which focuses on the specific needs of seniors who are moving into their next phase of life,” she said.“ I’ ve done it personally with my own parents, who lived in their home for 52 years before relocating, and have also assisted friends, church members and clients. There are significant emotional and financial aspects to this major life transition. Seniors need someone who can address their concerns with the selling / moving process and provide the resources they need.”
On the other end of the spectrum is Connor’ s other favorite group to work with: first-time homebuyers, where the enthusiasm and responsibility of owning their first home can be overwhelming.
“ I love working with first-time homebuyers because you’ re not only finding them a place to live; you’ re preparing them for the future,” she explained.“ Teaching them about homeownership is extremely rewarding. Some new home buyers don’ t know where to begin. They’ ve never applied for a mortgage, hired a home inspector, painted a room or removed carpeting to expose
hardwood floors. Being a resource to meet their needs and maintain their largest investment is a feeling you can’ t describe.”
Connor’ s success in real estate is directly attributable to her approach to people. She’ s been a member of RE / MAX’ s 100 Percent Club for the past two years, but cherishes the relationships she has with her clients more than awards. Referrals make up the majority of her business. She’ s helped clients buy and sell homes all over Western Pennsylvania because referrals know no boundaries.
“ Client referrals are important because it shows that past buyers and sellers are so confident with your work that they trust you with the people they care about,” she said.“ I sold a house for a couple a few years ago and they referred me to their children and grandchildren who were moving back to Pittsburgh from Belgium. We looked at homes for three years until we found the one they loved. It was so rewarding to work with multiple generations of this family. These very special clients are now referring me to their circle of friends. That’ s what I love about this job. It’ s all about relationships!”
Outside of the office, Connor volunteers at The Children’ s Home of Pittsburgh and belongs to Chatham University’ s Center for Women’ s Entrepreneurship, the Women’ s Business Network and the Oakmont Chamber of Commerce. Her son and daughter are both engaged, so wedding planning has become her new favorite pastime.
