WHAT’ S NEWS IN FOX CHAPEL AREA
FOX FAMILIES CARE AIMS TO BRING HOLIDAY MAGIC TO THOSE IN NEED
Fox Families Care( FFC)— a nonprofit serving children in the Fox Chapel Area School District— is once again rallying the community to support local students this holiday season. Dedicated to bridging the gap between children’ s needs and available resources, FFC provides essentials and enrichment opportunities so every student can thrive.
In November, the beloved Angel Tree Program returns, inviting community members to select tags representing local children and purchase gifts to brighten their holidays. For many families facing financial hardship, this program helps ensure that their children experience the joy and wonder of the season.
One grateful parent shared,“ Thanks to the generosity of all Santa’ s angels, my kids will be so excited Christmas morning, and none the wiser to the financial struggles I’ m currently dealing with.”
Beyond the holidays, FFC supports students year-round by providing clothing, backpacks, school supplies, groceries, scholarships and emergency assistance, as well as sponsoring programs that promote mental health and inclusivity across the district. UPCOMING EVENT WITH AAUW FOX CHAPEL
The Fox Chapel Area affiliate of the American Association of University Women will host“ Living in Liberty: Combating Sex Trafficking” on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Faith United Methodist Church, 261 West Chapel Ridge Road.
Guest speaker Elizabeth Echevarria, CEO and founder of Living in Liberty, will share insights into the hidden world of human trafficking in Southwestern Pennsylvania and how her nonprofit works to restore dignity and healing to survivors.
Founded in 2012, Living in Liberty provides outreach, support, and a safe home for women, guiding them through a five-step program toward independence and renewed hope.
Echevarria— who holds a master’ s degree in social work from Slippery Rock University— was inspired to start the organization after learning about the devastating effects of trafficking from a woman in Calcutta. Today, Living in Liberty is a lifeline for women seeking freedom from exploitation.
