2 018 - 2 019 f ox c hapel a r ea s chool d is tr ict | s tat e of t he s chools • Five Fox Chapel Area School District elementary students were selected to perform at the PMEA District 1 Elementary String Festival. The students who participated were Fairview Elementary School fifth-graders Xing Carlough and Simon Littwin, and O’Hara Elementary School fifth-graders Gigi Metten- burg, Zehra Ozkaya, and Katie Siddons. • The Dorseyville Middle School Honors Band earned first place at a Music in the Parks Festival in Sandusky, Ohio. The band also earned a rating of “Superior,” which is the highest rating possible, and received the Best Overall Jr. High/Middle School Band award for obtaining the highest score in the competition. • The Dorseyville Middle School Girls Chamber Cho- rus and the DMS FoxTones performed both indepen- dently and together as the DMS Mixed Choir at a Music in the Parks Festival in Bowie, Maryland. The Mixed Choir took first place and was rated “Excellent,” the second highest rating. The DMS Girls Chamber Chorus also placed first, earned the highest rating of “Superior,” and received the best Overall Jr. High/Middle School Choir award. The DMS FoxTones earned a first place and a rating of “Superior.” Additionally, the DMS groups were the only choirs, in both the middle school and high school divisions, to receive “Superior” ratings. • The Dorseyville Middle School Philharmonic and Sinfonia orchestras placed at a Music in the Parks Festival near Cincinnati. The Philharmonic placed first in its division with a “Superior” rating and won first-place overall orchestra. The Sinfonia also placed first in its division with a “Superior” rating. Additionally, DMS seventh-grader Mia Costello won the Outstanding Instrumental Soloist Award, the first time a Dorseyville Middle School student has ever won this prestigious designation. • Fox Chapel Area High School junior J. Oliver Choo was selected as one of the winners of the 2019 Young Artists Auditions sponsored by the Pittsburgh Concert Society. FOX CHAPEL AREA ❘ FALL 2019 21
