KUNKEL NAMED ONE OF TOP 13 CHEMISTRY STUDENTS IN REGION
Mark Kunkel, a Seneca Valley junior, was recently named one of the top 13 chemistry students in the Pittsburgh region.
Kunkel was selected by Seneca Valley Advanced Placement Chemistry Teacher Kelly Weston to represent Seneca Valley Senior High School for the regional competition hosted by the local chapter of the American Chemical Society( ACS). After earning a top 13 spot, Kunkel then moved on to the 49th Annual United States National Chemistry Olympiad( USNCO) competition, which was held at Duquesne University and required each regional winner to participate in a four-hour exam. Even though he didn’ t place at the national level, Weston said Kunkel“ did a great job representing Seneca Valley.”
Both Kunkel and Weston were recognized for their efforts during an awards dinner on May 15 at Duquesne University.
The American Chemical Society serves more than 157,000 members globally, providing educational and career development programs, products and services. As the largest scientific society in the world, they are a leading and authoritative source of scientific information.
SV SENIOR SELECTED FOR CIVILIAN MARKSMANSHIP PROGRAM SCHOLARSHIP
Seneca Valley senior Joshua Reeb was recently selected to receive a Civilian Marksmanship Program( CMP) scholarship for the 2016-17 academic school year.
The CMP Scholarship Program annually provides 150 $ 1,000 college scholarships to outstanding high school seniors who participate in marksmanship competitions.
This one-year scholarship award is for those who are enrolling in a post-secondary education; at a four year college, a two year college, or a vocational school. Reeb achieved excellence by being a member of the Seneca Valley JROTC Raider Battalion Marksmanship Team, participating in competitions and also excelling academically.
“ The CMP congratulates Mr. Reeb for being selected to receive a 2016-17 CMP Scholarship,” says Dana Bacak Lynd, CMP assistant programs chief.
The mission of the CMP is to promote firearm safety and marksmanship training with an emphasis on youth.

SV ENVIROTHON MEMBERS DOMINATE DOMAIN
The Seneca Valley Biology Club won first, second, fourth and fifth place in the Butler County Envirothon Competition on May 2.
The first place team will attend the state level competition at University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown( UPJ) May 23. First place team members include Helena Matusiak, Nora Gavaghan, Maya Albanowski, Gabi Blew and Hannah McCann. The second place team members include Brady Moze, David Kristobak, Maggie Rasp, Jill Dressler and Hollen Davinsizer. Four teams from Seneca Valley attended the competition. SV Biology Club members have qualified for State Level Envirothon Competitions for the past 30 years. The Biology Club prepares students to compete in two environmental team competitions throughout the school year. Topics include identification of animals and plants, aquatic ecology, forestry, soils and land use, current environmental issues and wildlife management.
SENECA VALLEY PROM KING AND QUEEN
Sydney Huber was crowned queen and Kyle Cindrich king at the Seneca Valley High School prom at Stage AE in Pittsburgh.
Huber is the daughter of Kevin and Susan Huber of Cranberry Township. Cindrich is the son of Timothy and Michelle Cindrich of Cranberry Township.
This year’ s prom theme was“ The Roaring 2017s.”
SV BAND NAMED GRAND CHAMPIONS ONCE AGAIN
The Seneca Valley Marching Band recently returned from the 62nd annual Pegasus Parade as Grand Champions for the third time.
