During his visit, he spoke to students about his service, offered advice and answered student’ s questions.
Sgt. Cepek’ s fellow Vietnam Veteran, Sgt. Bob Kunkle, U. S Marine Corps also attended and spoke to students. Additionally, Sgt. Kunkle met with those who are planning on being future Marines.

Julia DiNicola was crowned queen and Matthew Corcoran crowned king at the Seneca Valley High School’ s prom held at Stage AE in Pittsburgh.
Julia is the daughter of Caroline and Vincent DiNicola of Cranberry Township.
Matthew is the son of Chris Corcoran of Cranberry Township and Michael Corcoran of Cranberry Township.
This year’ s prom theme was“ A Night in the Spotlight.”

SV SUPERINTENDENT CHOSEN TO REPRESENT COMMONWEALTH

Seneca Valley Superintendent of Schools Dr. Tracy Vitale was chosen as one of only 80 school superintendents to attend the Superintendent’ s Academy that took place in Harrisburg, May 15 through 17. The Secretary of Education of Pennsylvania, Dr. Pedro Rivera is starting a Superintendent’ s Academy to study the needs of students in poverty and the organization of public school systems. Dr. Vitale was chosen as one of the few school superintendents to represent school districts across 500 public school districts in the Commonwealth. This is a two-year program that will be held on-site in Harrisburg. All travel and accommodation expenses will be paid by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

FABULOUS RAIDER READERS

The Seneca Valley Literary Works Club followed up the fall victory by the senior team, Read‘ em and Weep, at the Butler County Reading Competition with an impressive showing from the underclassmen.
On Apr. 5, three teams comprised of thirty-six students traveled to Sidman, PA to compete in the IU 8 Interscholastic Reading Competition. Participating students fielded more than one hundred questions from 40 different books the team Untitled,( SV juniors and sophomores) claimed a second place victory and an unprecedented score by the freshmen team Book, Line and Sinker, led to a first place finish.
“ All students should be commended for their hard work and attention to detail,” says Ms. Peggy Mourer, intermediate high school librarian.“ The teams’ performance made us all‘ Seneca Proud.’”

SV BURIES TIME CAPSULE FOR CLASS OF 2065

Newspaper articles, flash drives, yearbooks and an ID badge were just some of the items that may pique the interest of those who will open the Seneca Valley time capsule 50 years from now.
In celebration of Seneca Valley’ s 50th Anniversary, building principals and administrators have been collecting items for a time capsule. Seneca Valley School District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Tracy Vitale and School Board Director Vice President Mr. James Nickel placed the final items in the time capsule at the school board meeting Monday evening.
The time capsule will be secured in a wall opening in the senior high school marked with a plaque signifying its existence. It won’ t be opened again until 2065, the District’ s 100th anniversary.
“ It is my honor and privilege to serve as Superintendent of Schools during a historic time and I’ m proud to say our motto‘ Proud of the Past, Committed to the Future’ rings as true today as it did when we opened our doors in 1965,” says Dr. Vitale.

WINNING DESIGN

Haine Middle School fifth grader Grace Davis created the winning design for the Superheroes Foundation’ s 8th Annual 5K Walk / Run held at North Park in Allegheny County on Apr. 23.
Grace’ s design was featured on all promotional materials including fliers and T-shirts.

SV JUNIOR NOMINATED FOR THE CONGRESS OF FUTURE SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY LEADERS

David Kristobak, a junior at Seneca Valley Senior High School( SHS) will serve as a Delegate of the Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders in Lowell, Massachusetts on June 29‐July 1.
The Congress is an honors-only program for high school students who are passionate about science, technology, engineering or mathematics( STEM). The purpose of this event is to honor, inspire, motivate and direct the top students in the country who aspire to be scientists and technologists, to stay true to their dream and, after the event, to provide a path, plan and resources to help them reach their goal.
Kristobak was nominated by the winner of the first Google Science Fair, Shree Bose- Academic Director of the National Academy of Future Scientists and Technologists- to represent Seneca Valley based on his academic achievement, leadership potential and passion for science and technology.

During the three-day Congress, Kristobak will join students from across the country and hear Nobel Laureates and National Medal of Science Winners talk about leading scientific research; be given advice from deans of the world’ s top tech universities; be inspired by fellow teen science prodigies; and learn about cutting‐edge advances and the future of science and technology. eneca Valley
