Giving back to the community is also part of his family’ s heritage. Baker joined the McKees Rocks Rotary 20 years ago— following in the footsteps of his dad, Bernie Baker, who is a Moon Rotarian as well as his grandfather, Paul Baker, who was a McKees Rocks Rotarian.
“ I feel like I’ ve been a Rotarian for my whole life,” he says.“ I’ ve been going to the McKees Rocks Rotary Pancake Breakfast every year since I was old enough to remember. My grandma would hand me a bin and I’ d pick up silverware, clean dishes and put plates away.” With a lifelong passion for baking, he takes pride in his products.“ We do frequent samplings where we go out and make French toast,” says Baker.“ To watch someone take a bite of it for the first time and see the happy look on their face is so gratifying.” It’ s all about the teaspoons and measuring cups for baking success.“ Measure, measure, measure,” says Baker.“ Baking is a science. When you are cooking, you are combining flavors for a desired result; when you are baking, you’ re combining ingredients for a desired time to make a chemical reaction. So when you’ re baking at home, make sure that you follow that recipe.” Like following a recipe, Baker also believes in following dreams.
