JUNIOR TROOP 26656
ENCOURAGES OTHERS
TO GO GREEN!
Junior Troop 26656 recently completed
the “Get Moving” journey, and gave back
to Hope Lutheran Church as a token of
gratitude for the use of its facilities as
a troop meeting space. Last winter, the
troop completed an informal energy audit
at Hope Lutheran Church. They learned
that Hope Lutheran has several “green”
policies in place, but did not have adequate
recycling resources. The troop organized
an educational campaign to raise awareness
about energy and water conservation as
well as recycling efforts, in an effort to
help conserve energy and resources at
Hope Lutheran. The girls donated several
plastic recycling bins to the church, which
have allowed it to expand recycling efforts
following a kitchen construction project.
The girls then transitioned into Bronze
Award preparations and aimed to educate
other Cranberry Girl Scouts about what
they had learned through their Get Moving
journey. All girls created an Earth Day event
for Cranberry Daisies, Brownies and Juniors
on this year’s Earth Day. The girls educated
others and built awareness about various
Earth Day topics.
Each Girl Scout who attended earned
an Earth Day fun patch, as well as the 2016
Global Action Award. The girls of Troop
26656 created four station ideas, developed
the ideas for each station and then prepared
activities for the event. The station activities
included: Earth Day planting, bird feeder,
“green” SWAPS, “Out of This World
Obstacle Course,” Snack, Girls’ Global
Education Awareness (which explored
how girls in other countries have access to
education), and Girl Scout friendship circle
songs. Junior Troop 26656 was very excited
to share what they have learned with others,
and to continue to spread the word to go
green!
