Schneider Family YMCA DISCONNECT TO RECONNECT THROUGH SUMMER CAMP W hile there still may be a few frost advisories yet to come, registration for the Rose E. Schneider Family YMCA “Camp Rose Summer Camp” is open and accepting new campers. With camp starting in just a few short months on June 8, and running through August 21, getting signed up early is imperative! If you’re looking for your camper to have a summer full of fun and adventure, look no further-- Camp Rose is the place for you. “Our camp is for children in Kindergarten through Sixth Grade and runs Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 6:00 pm,” said Ashley Vranick, Youth & Family Director at the Y. “This year, we have a variety of different plans, weekly field trips, and in-house activities with special guests that all follow 11 separate weekly curriculums.” With themes like “#BeTheKindKid,” “Heroes,” “Disney,” and “Around the World,” campers experience a vast range of activities and interests. Whether they sign up for just one or all of the offered programs, kids are bound to learn and grow during their time at Camp Rose. “We promote local community businesses and resources with our camps through partnerships that are educational and fun,” Vranick said. “Our field trips take us to places like Flying Squirrel, Skate Castle, Moraine State Park, Zelienople Community Pool, Jellystone Park, and more. We also have age-appropriate Safety Around the Water instruction available and a literacy program to help with the summer learning loss that all kids experience when they’re not in school. In particular, through our partnerships with local libraries, each grade will read and explore books appropriate for each of their unique reading levels.” Vranick said a major overarching theme to the whole summer is “Disconnect to Reconnect,” referencing disconnecting from electronic devices and reconnecting with friends, nature, and books. “We want to get kids outside and experience the real world around them, so they can take off from screen time, make friendships and develop communication and social skills throughout the summer,” she said. “Camp Rose gives parents a perfect opportunity to give their kids a summer they’ll remember while also promoting core values of the YMCA.” While camps are the same price for YMCA members and non-members ($190 per week), the YMCA’s mission and stature in the community enable them to offer scholarships to families who qualify for financial assistance.
