OFFERING SEW MUCH MORE
THINK FAST: If you needed an
old suit or gown taken in for
an event this weekend, where
would you go to get it done? If
you haven’t a clue, join the club.
Tailor and seamstress services
are things that most people
think are relics of the past,
but at Metro Dry Cleaning in
Cranberry, the fact that nobody
was offering the lost art was the
perfect reason to resurrect it.
“We added a seamstress a few years ago and
took over the building space next to us, and
added a fitting room,” said Tim Blain, owner of
Metro. “We offer tailoring and alterations five days
a week. All of the work is done on site and the
normal turnaround time is five days. We do offer
expedited service if you need it fast, though, and
have been known to do things with same-day
service and small jobs while you wait.”
That old-fashioned service in a modern world
has been part of what makes Metro Dry Cleaning
stand out among the competition. Today’s
technology paired with customer service from
days gone by make Metro that rare place that you
can frequent and feel like you’re part of the family.
Blain, who has been pressing pants since he
was 14 years old, bought Metro Dry Cleaners in
2004. The store itself had been around since
1986 under different ownership, and since
Blain took over, he’s invested in top-of-
the-line machines and green solvents that
make dry cleaning more of a science than
a service. Adding seamstress Linda Prunty,
who has nearly 40 years of experience in
the business, not only gives people another
reason to stop in, but also another way to
save money.
“We can keep old clothes
alive by mending them,” Blain
said. “We can fix buttons,
zippers, hem pants or add cuffs.
A lot of men get hand-me-
down suits or have suits that
have sentimental value and we
can restore them or alter them
so they fit perfectly.”
Metro not only dry cleans
clothing, it offers a shirt laundry
service, household item
cleaning, shoe repair, drapery cleaning and
leather repair.
All services include free home delivery. There
is also a wash-and-fold service that is billed at
$1.99 per pound, $2.20 a pound for allergen-free
detergent, which is a lifesaver for busy families
and professionals. Blain noted that because the
quality of the service is so important to him,
he is constantly sending his 12 employees to
continuing education classes and seminars
pertinent to the dry cleaning industry.
So, if you’re looking for an expert dry cleaner
that can handle everything from your clothes to
your curtains to your buttons at an affordable
price and on your schedule, give Metro Dry
Cleaning a try.
