CTCC 2017 PROJECT OF THE YEAR:

Sportscourts in Graham Park BY NICOLE TAFE

To commemorate CTCC’ s 40th anniversary, the organization is undertaking its seventh and largest Project of the Year— a crowdsourced Create-It- Yourself sports venue called“ CTCC Sportscourts.”

The Sportscourts will be located near the entrance of Graham Park and will be the first recreation space in view when entering the park. It will include areas for different court games, many of which are the first of their kind in the Cranberry area, along with a community garden. The exact number and types of courts will be determined by the amount of money raised for each particular sport.
Current plans call for eight pickleball courts, four tennis courts, two basketball courts, three bocce courts, two shuffleboard courts and four horseshoe courts. If any particular sport does not raise enough money, the designated area will remain green and available for future development. With an estimated budget of $ 750,000, the burden of fundraising for the various activity areas will depend on those who really want a particular activity. For example, Cranberry is home to many pickleball enthusiasts who would like to see pickleball courts available within the township. However, if the CTCC finds there is a stronger interest in bocce than pickleball, as determined by the amount of money raised, then more bocce courts and fewer pickleball courts will be built.
CTCC is looking for people and organizations to lead fundraising for a chosen sport to ensure their favorite courts have sufficient funding. Naming rights for the individual sport areas and specific courts will be available as well.
Alongside CTCC’ s project, Cranberry Township has announced Phase Two of the building and improvements to Graham Park. Combining perfectly with the CTCC’ s 2017 Project of the Year, the township will help transform the park into a world-class sporting facility by providing planning, project management, excavation, utility installation, the building of new restroom facilities and creating additional handicap parking.
